Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Nintendo apparently shut down sale of custom Etika themed Joycons that were raising money for charity

Why Nintendo??? Etika created one of your biggest communities and you dont show a bit of grateful??? C'mon man.

Unfortunately Japanese companies in general don't take mental health very seriously.

Big companies being trash and heartless is not surprising

Totally unnecessary move for Nintendo, hope they get backslash and step back

It's totally necessary because it's the law. Nintendo can't let people use their trademarks without license, otherwise it grants precedent for everyone else to do so without Nintendo having legal grounds to stop them. Failure to defend unauthorized use of trademarks nullifies the trademark.

EDITED for horrific grammar.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

Sure "Charity"... Not a way to try to side-step licensing the chips and technology like everyone else has to.

I'm with Nintendo here.
Selling just the shell is okay but selling modified Nintendo products is not (especially when someone is doing this commercially and the official product is available in stores).

No surprise that Nintendo knows how business works. Also no surprise that the manufacturer of these Joy-Cons doesn't know how it works. Even less of a surprise that the gaming community doesn't know how business works.

Anyone who feels strongly about this Etika cause can donate $20 to a charity without getting anything for the money in return. But it's also no surprise that not even 1% of the people who complain will be willing to give as little as $20.

Legend11 correctly predicted that GTA IV (360+PS3) would outsell SSBB. I was wrong.

it is harsh but if it is not licensed and if they allow it then everybody will do it.

I wonder how hard would have it been to license them. This kind of charity work usually brings a lot of good publicity for all parties involved.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

Typical Nintendo robotic corporate reaction.

And now since the marketing stunt for the charity is done, they can simply open one without the sales of modified Joy-Cons and it'll end up in a better results for them than before this situation.

Damn, if that ain't genius !

Anywoo, it is still once again a debate of copyright/IP laws vs the grey area of legality usage of someone else's propriety.
Nintendo are in their rights to do so even if we might not agree with the harshness with which they hammer down others projects.
