Forums - Gaming Discussion - NXGamer - Assasins Creed patch 1.04 (performance mode, quality mode) + DF update

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ibRsM1Nnpmk

TL DR:

Quality mode (4k30):
XSX doesnt seem as stable 30, as the XSS (which runs a lot lesser resolution).
PS5 and XSX both, arnt locked 30, but run near identical, and decently well (its close to 30, minor dips only).

Performance Mode:

XSS: Now has lowered resolution on the Xbox Series S (base = 720p, scaled back upto 1080p) stable 60 fps (as stable as the PS5/XSX, if not more so).

XSX : To improve XSX version performance, they made it scale more aggresively (ei. it drops to lower resolutions than PS5, to improve performance).
PS5 : slightly better LoD. Slightly better Alpha effects.

Both run near flawless 60fps now (ei. XSX runs as well as the PS5 version in fps).
They improved the amount of frame tearing the XSX had, but its still more than the PS5 version.

FPS differnce between the PS5 + XSX is 0,02%  (2/100th's of a %)

Also rumors of Ubisoft breaking the game, and hurting the PS5 version are blown out of all purportions (he didnt experiance it).
PS5 has a really small edge (in image quality) and both run near identical FPS.. No matter which version you play, your in for a treat.

TL - DR:

PS5:
Has a opening scene, cutscene that runs slightly worse for a little bit.
Apart from that, everywhere else performance seem the same as before.

XSX:
Has alot less screen tearing.
The area before that dipped into the mid 40's, is now 60.
(this area now runs 1296p, ei. lower resolution than before)

The torch light, and shadows.... bug that caused fps into 40's, doesnt now.
(This might be due to them lowering lowest resolution from 1440p -> 1188p.)

A more aggresive dynamic scaleing resolution (lower bound) has improved performance..
xbox series x does on avg run lower resolution than PS5, according to DF, to keep 60fps.

XSS: 60FPS mode :)  (720p and up, often around 800p ish)
DF says they found the XSS, to run slightly less smooth 60fps than the PS5/XSX.

dosent mention how much the resolution drop is before and after?

It takes genuine talent to see greatness in yourself despite your absence of genuine talent.

Both supposedly used to bottom out at 1440p.
Now the Xbox Series X version goes down to 1260p (nxgamer).  *edit: (DF found down to 1188p)

Remember these are dynamic scaled, up and down, so its only noticeable when really stressed.
And its a worth while trade off to get more stable 60fps.
So these situation arnt a constant thing.... you would probably need a maginifying glass to even notice a differnce, in a freeze frame, when both were stressed to notice a differnce.

Hell the Xbox Series S (in performance mode) runs at 720p (base) and he says thats honestly for the best.
It looks really close to 1080p due to how well it upscales. 60fps comes at cost of resolution.

I would call them pretty much identical, as it appears that the frame rate is more stable in combat, as shown and stated at around 8:20. The dips on the PS5 are so minor that they are pretty much null, just like the one isolated section (that he called luck of the draw likely) where the dynamic resolution dropped to 1260p for a moment. Screen tearing vastly improved from the previous version on XSX.

Quality mode is stable and identical on both, with minimal minor dips to frame rate. This is actually the mode I play on as it seems the most polished at a locked 4k and relatively smooth 30fps. There is also zero tearing on either version.

It has also came to light that most changes were made to the XSX version for improvement, and that little has changed from the original PS5 build in performance mode (despite claims to the contrary). Therefore issues people might have on either version are likely bug related.

Seems like a true tie when everything is weighed in, with niether version being superior to the other. Pretty much expected from a cross gen port that has not been fully optimized for either new console, and there is no wrong choice here.

Are any updates going to PC version?

Yep DF pretty much confirms that it is a tie as well. Based on their footage, the PS5 performance has not changed at all. It also actually appears that the XSX holds 60 fps a bit better now with less tearing than the PS5 now based on the improvements to that version, but the difference is small and the XSX has a lower bottom resolution in performance mode. So that is pretty much a wash IMO.

Really makes you wonder about claims of the PS5 being worse with the patch, almost as if to downplay the improvements for the XSX. Glad to see both versions doing well and hope everyone can just enjoy the game now, regardless of platform.

DF guys were saying that the patch made the PS5 version worse. They themselves made comments that the PS5 version had gotten worse, now with this video they claim that the thing on ps5 hasn't changed. No "console war" agenda here, just some hasty and unfortunate comments.

Side note: I'm happy to see to see both consoles delivering similar results. Lots of silly talk about "power advantage" from Xbox camp on the past few months are turning in Bull@#@#!. Hopefully things continue like this and both consoles will need to shine in other areas as the "power narrative" will be non existent this gen.

John in the video mentions he thinks this was a "bug" with the update.
He restarted his PS5, and it was running with the patch as it should.
