Gap change in latest month: 451,306 - PS3 & X360

Gap change over last 12 months: 5,204,199 - PS3 & X360

Interesting one given how nicely aligned all the launches are... and PS3 > PS4 transition is exactly the same number of months as PS4 > PS5.

Given the X360 was still a year away from being replaced though, this gap will keep shrinking. I suspect it may fall below 10 million in the next 2 months due to X360s final pre-X1 holiday. And will continue to fall in the following months, but despite the quicker slowdown the PS4+X1 should just squeeze out the overall win probably finishing with the lead in the 5-7.5 million range.

October | EMEAA Charts Nintendo Switch console sales up 77% in October 2020 vs 2019

I did not do the math on PS4/XBO, but it looks like NSW may be slightly under-tracked in Europe on VGC for October?  Not sure which exact markets the EMEAA reporting covers, but they say NSW is up 77% YoY in October 2020 vs. 2019.

VGC's 4 October weeks come out to 335K in 2019 and 570K in 2020, which is up 7%.  So if the 77% figure fits in here, there are 20-25K additional units to be accounted for.

Also, we know that the US market has been up a bit stronger over 2019 than Europe as a whole.  October 2019 NPD was 309K.  The same increase in the US gets us to 546K, so we could be going higher than that.

That is the first time I've seen a EMEAA chart.  I like that the break down physical and digital into separate charts.

When you put it like that, at the pace the Switch is currently setting, it really puts things in perspective. Supply allowing, Switch could sell close to that much just for this FY.

Switch vs PS4 Sales Comparison - Switch Lead Tops 6 Million in October 2020

This monthly series compares the aligned worldwide sales of the Nintendo Switch and the PlayStation 4.

Switch Vs. PS4 Global:

Gap change in latest month: 943,031 - Switch

Gap change over last 12 months: 8,263,615 - Switch

Total Lead: 6,776,194 - Switch

Switch Total Sales: 67,966,935

PS4 Total Sales: 61,190,741

October 2020 is the 44th month that the Nintendo Switch has been available for. During the latest month, the gap grew in favor of the Switch by 943,031 units when compared to the PlayStation 4 during the same timeframe. In the last 12 months, the Switch has outsold the PlayStation 4 by 8.26 million units. The Switch is currently ahead of the PlayStation 4 by 6.78 million units.

The PlayStation 4 launched in November 2013, while the Nintendo Switch launched worldwide in March 2017. Therefore, the holiday periods for the two consoles do not lineup, which is why there are big increases and decreases.

The 44th month on sale for the Nintendo Switch is October 2020, while for the PlayStation 4 it is June 2017. The Switch has sold 67.97 million units, while the PlayStation 4 sold 61.19 million units during the same timeframe. The PlayStation 4 did not reach current Switch sales until month 49.

The PlayStation 4 has sold 113.69 million units through September 2020. The Nintendo Switch is currently 45.72 million units behind the lifetime sales of the PlayStation 4.

Switch's lead after these holidays is going to be frankly scary.

PS4's 4th year was it's peak correct, which Switch is running aligned with at the moment?

Switch getting 8.2 Millon on PS4 and 17.3 Million on 3DS in 1 Year is just ridiculous... And it will look even MORE ridiculous in 2 Month. Oh my dear ... What a massacre it will be ...

The Switch vs. 3DS charts are so interesting. Switch looked like it was going to sell like the 3DS for almost 2 years just going by the data alone. That is what I call Switch in caterpillar mode. Now Switch is in butterfly mode. It came out of it's shell and now we are seeing it's true form. It just keeps flying higher and higher.

Switch vs 3DS Sales Comparison - Switch Nears Lifetime 3DS Sales in October 2020

This monthly series compares the aligned worldwide sales of the Nintendo Switch and the Nintendo 3DS.

Switch Vs. 3DS Global:

Gap change in latest month: 1,494,326 - Switch

Gap change over last 12 months: 17,369,532 - Switch

Total Lead: 23,071,430 - Switch

Switch Total Sales: 67,966,935

3DS Total Sales: 44,895,505

October 2020 is the 44th month that the Nintendo Switch has been available for. During the latest month, the gap grew in favor of the Switch by 1.49 million units when compared to the 3DS during the same timeframe and by 17.37 million units in favor of the Switch in the last 12 months. The Switch is currently ahead of the 3DS by 23.07 million units.

The 3DS launched in February 2011 (however, 3DS sales have been aligned to March 2011, since it only launched at the end of February in Japan), while the Nintendo Switch launched worldwide in March 2017. This does mean the holidays for the two platforms do lineup.

The 44th month for the Nintendo Switch is October 2020 and for the Nintendo 3DS it is October 2014. The Switch has sold 67.97 million units, while the 3DS sold 44.90 million units during the same timeframe. The 3DS did not reach current Switch sales until month 81.

The Nintendo 3DS has sold 75.82 million units to date. The Nintendo Switch is currently just 7.85 million units behind the lifetime sales of the 3DS. At its current pace, the Switch will outsell the lifetime 3DS sales sometime in December.

I never get tired of seeing this comparison these days after countless times trying to explain to people as late as last year why Switch was going to easily outsell 3DS.

People used to just look at their graphs trending closely together and totally ignore that 3DS needed an emergency price cut to nearly half Switch's price to hit that pace while Switch was doing it at $300 and before any revisions.
