Forums - Sony Discussion - New Demon's Souls Gameplay

Looks great, not my type of game but looks great. I believe I had the original when it was free on PS+ years ago but never touched it. I may get this one day.

Digital Foundry are certainly singing it's praises. "best looking game releasing this year" and "might go down as one of the best launch titles of all time". It's interesting to note that all footage we have seen so far is from the 60fps performance mode, rather than the 30fps high graphics mode. Which is unusual.

Edit: Apparently the 60fps mode has been optimized further too and pushing higher resolution, now runs in dynamic 4k rather than a straight 1440p.

I find it difficult to agree with Mr. Linneman on this one. It has been confirmed in a Polygon interview that, much like every other Bluepoint game to date, they have only changed the surface of the game: the visuals. Everything else functions exactly as it did in PS3 because they haven't touched the game's logic. So... we are literally playing the same game that was launched on PS3. True, it has far superior graphics, framerate and no loading times. And I'm looking forward to play it as much as everyone else. But at its core it's not just "a faitful recreation", which would imply they have remade the games internals. No, they have just copy pasted. It's essentially a very elaborated and oficial mod.

I can't qualify Demon's Souls (PS5) as one of the best launch games of all time because we already played it over 10 years ago. I can't praise Bluepoint games for nothing other than their impecable visual reconstruction, because they haven't "made" the game. They just made it prettier. Which is absolutely fine, but let's not get crazy over there. Bluepoint still has to prove that they can actually make a true videogame on their own before getting this kind of praise.

Incredible remake! Too bad we aren't getting that sixth archstone lol.

It's clear they spent a ton of time recreating this masterpiece. I only hope I can find a Playstation 5 to appreciate it sooner than later.

I don't recall seeing this game free for PS plus.  Was it free?  I know that bloodborn was on the PS4.

That's the first thing I hoped for when I heard it was getting remade. Maybe we can hope for DLC.

I didn't remember either but apparently it was added April 2, 2013 in NA and May 29, 2013 in PAL.

Im done with souls games cuz I cant beat them, but man does this look good.

It takes genuine talent to see greatness in yourself despite your absence of genuine talent.

It's gonna be the first game I play when I eventually pick up a PS5.

Their entire development philosophy though is to re-create the original experience as authentically as possible. This has been extremely important for them given the cult classic nature of games like SOTC and Demons Souls. Even minor changes have seen a lot of criticism (the new camera and the visuals). I actually personally find the development process fascinating. They port the logic and gameplay systems over to retain the same experience and feeling as the original, then peel everything else back and build it from scratch.

Visuals alone isn't entirely true- they also recaptured all the animations, added life improvements and adjusted multiplayer.

I mean you do have a point, but it reminds me a bit of Theseus' ship. If they retain some element of the original then it's still Demons Souls but if any game shares the same source code or carries over even a pixel, is it still the same? When is it not the same?

While the gameplay may be essentially the exact same-it's a totally different experience. It will look (camera system, 4k, entirely new design), feel (60fps, haptics) and sound (new audio) completely new.

I'd like to see them tackle a new IP but there's still demand for more remakes of this quality- and they're the best at it.
