Forums - Sales Discussion - Famitsu Sales: Week 42, 2020 (Oct 12 - Oct 18)

Wow, Mario Kart Live did really well! Will be interesting to see its legs.

I thought Mario 3D All-Stars would stay higher than this since its only available for 6 months, but I guess Japan isn't that big into 3D Mario games.

Switch just dominant as always, and only 10k away from what it had after week 51 last year!

Switch to PS4 ratio at 27 to 1 for the week.
Just another day in Nintendoland.

Mario Kart Live is a better fit for the West where home space is less at a premium compared to Japan.

2 Weeks and it should be done. Pikmin 3 and SMT III should do the trick, I'm sure Nintendo stocked a couple consoles for that week.

  • Slow start to the Holiday Quarter with Mario Kart Live being the biggest title thus far
  • Big titles for October will be Pikmin 3 and SMT III Nocturne
  • Ring Fit supply is still holding the game back a fair bit in Japan
  • New Horizon bundle is being sold by Nintendo again, so the physical attach rate for the game should rise over the holidays

Switch stock relatively stable.

This will be Switch's first holiday without a megaton holiday game, but demand is so high anyway that it hardly matters.

I mean, MKL's sellthrough isn't that surprizong considering they probably overshipped knowing quite a few will sell within the holiday quarter, and also the fact that housing is super expensive in japan meaning many might not exactly have the room for MKL.

01./00. [NSW] Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit - Mario Set / Luigi Set (Nintendo) {2020.10.16} (¥9.980) - 73.918 / NEW

05./05. [NSW] Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (Nintendo) {2017.04.28} (¥5.980) - 10.928 / 3.220.146 (-14%)
08./07. [NSW] Pokemon Sword / Shield # (Pokemon Co.) {2019.11.15} (¥5.980) - 6.720 / 3.766.636 (-6%)
10./09. [NSW] Super Smash Bros. Ultimate # (Nintendo) {2018.12.07} (¥7.200) - 6.301 / 3.855.901 (-4%)
13./12. [NSW] Splatoon 2 # (Nintendo) {2017.07.21} (¥5.980) - 4.418 / 3.584.497 (-10%)

I wonder if MK live will cut into MK8 sales long term. Nah probably not, ¥9980 is steep. It is still catching up to these 3 games.
