Forums - PC Discussion - Recommend me a good (not too expensive) game pad?

I'm not planning to play too much on my new laptop (as it only has a GTX 1650 Mobile) and thanks to Covid-induced work shortage I have very limited funds, but I thought having a game pad would be nice, as keyboard and mouse controls just don't do it for me.

Are the pads from 8bitdo any good? Like this one: amazon.co.jp 8bitdo USB

I'm asking here because I don't trust reviews on amazon any more.

I also thought about getting a pad from an Xbox One or Series S/X, but I'm in rural Japan, and those seem rather hard to find here. (And I prefer wired to wireless if possible.)

Any recommendations are welcome!

Why not use the Nintendo, Sony or Xbox controllers you have? Buy the 8Bitdo adapter instead!

Here is the link: https://www.8bitdo.com/wireless-usb-adapter/

There is also this other one: https://www.8bitdo.com/usb-adapter-ps1-classic/

https://www.amazon.co.jp/Goolsky-PS%E3%82%AF%E3%83%A9%E3%82%B7%E3%83%83%E3%82%AF%E7%89%88-Windows-Raspberry-Switch%E5%AF%B9%E5%BF%9C/dp/B07MJK2KWN/

I think the last one is the same and also cheaper on amazon, it was just a special edition made for the ps1 classic?

Thanks, that could work, I have Wii U Pro pad lying around. (Unfortunately no recent Sony or Xbox controllers.)

No problem, you can also use the adapter on your Switch or Android devices apart from the PC.
And you can use any of your Wiimote, Switch Joy-Cons and Switch Pro controllers.

I use the 8BitDo SN30 Pro+ for my Switch and PC, one of my fav controllers ever.

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

I don't know the situation in Japan, but elsewhere you get a used wired Xbox360-controller for 10 - 15 bucks. They are perfect for PC-gaming, best compatibility.

You can't order an XB controller from Amazon over there? Note that XB1 controllers can be used wired as well as wireless.

I have a SN30 Pro (wireless). Its a good pad, not the most ergonomic, but its well built and works well. Its just a quality SNES pad clone with extra flat 'trigger buttons' LT/RT. Works pretty well, I prefer it to the SNES Classic controller which says a lot about its quality.

If you can afford to bump it up for the Series S/X controller, I would probably go that way. Way more robust and ergonomic and 100% compatibility with Windows and games that support a game pad. You should be quite easily find one available to buy on Amazon next month upon the new console launch. All you need is a USB-C cable to plug it in and you're golden. Or connect via Bluetooth.

So all those wireless ones can be used via USB, too? That'd be nice.

On amazon at least they all seem to be either sold out or too expensive.

Xbox-Elite controller

Xbox wireless controller (red)

I'll check some stores when I go out next time, but Xbox is almost nonexistent here where I am.

Thanks for the info.

I'm not in a hurry, so I can wait for Series S/X controllers. My laptop even has a USB-C port.
