Forums - Nintendo - Super Mario Bros. 35th Anniversary Direct

So... is this what Nintendo was thinking?

- Port three old games with minimal improvements (if any). Just slap them on the new system. That way, the "developing" costs are negligible.
- Limit physical copies to just a small print. This way, you spent even less money on making the game and force people to consider buying it on digital (which gives you way more money than a physical sale)
- Put a timer on digital sales. Not too small, but small enough to make people worry. That together with the limited physical print will put even more pressure on fans to adquire the game even if they are not entirely convinced
- Sell millions of digital copies with huge benefits

Can I just say that the box art is wonderful. I want to play it instantly but I need that box art.

Just Preordered. Atleast a 15 day wait isn’t that bad

That's incredible tbh. I'm waiting to preorder physical and it's driving me crazy because no stores have it listed yet. I'm honestly surprised they haven't pushed it onto their storefronts yet.

My local Best Buy has it listed and I just got myself a pre-order.

Wait, they couldn´t even bother to get Mario 64 to run in widescreen mode?...is that true?....some incredibly low effort there.

While I was watching this, I was thinking "this is what the Mario Kart and 3D Mario teams were doing for the last three years?!" but as I looked into it deeper, the only thing that was probably done internally was the additional content for Mario 3D World. Everything else seems to be done by outside studios.

I'm super hyped for this. I know some people were expecting more effort on the visual side for the 3D Mario All Stars Collection. However, personally I feel like Mario Sunshine and Mario Galaxy especially don't need major improvements to look beautiful in 2020, those games have beautiful art-styles and having them upscaled to HD would make them look modern.

However, my main question is will Sunshine and Mario 64 run 60FPS, cause that'll make them even more amazing ports. I'm hoping they run 60fps.

I'm on the fence about the collection simply because I am interested in seeing Galaxy in HD. The game already looks great on Wii and going to 1080P I think would really make it pop. Plus it's a game I wouldn't mind playing over and over.

The other 2 games in the collection are why there's a good chance I just won't get it. There is no excuse for not updating 64's visuals. They did it already back in 2004 on the DS. Those models and textures would look much better at HD resolutions than the original 1996 models. It really should not be hard to give that game a new coat of paint.

Sunshine I would only play if they fixed the game. The camera is outright broken in too many places, the progression is too linear with the way you have to get the first 7 shines in every level and can't skip any of them if you don't like them or feel like chasing Shadow Mario for the 12th time. And the blue coins suck. There are so many things they needed to do to make the game more playable and it looks like they did none of them.

Can galaxy be played with a pro controller? I didnt see any confirmation from the trailer and my joy cons are like completely broke lol

Was hoping Galaxy 2 would be on there, but I'm interested in Galaxy 1 at least.

But why is it limited until March 2021?

"...and a digital edition of the game will be available for a limited time, until the end of March 2021."

??

Read my post above yours. If you have a better answer, I'd like to hear it xD

People are saying this is emulation and not a port for Mario 64 so yeah, kinda lazy. Especially considering we know Nintendo has Mario 64's source code and could easily do what the gaming community has done with the source code on the Switch. To me, this collection seems very half-assed.
