Is this satire song funny, or depressing?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XLxLVZlotV4

I wrote it as tongue-in-cheek satire, some say it's really funny if you have a dry sense of humor, but a couple of my friends said the song is just plain depressing.  If it is, then I've failed.  What do you think?

The only thing depressing about the song is that ride haha

If only you could ask the people who perished from covid 19. Did they feel the same way as the song describes, as they've mostly had their fun and could live with the consequences or did they value their life lasting above all else?

It's not cut an dry. Sure nobody wants to die for a reason that could be easily avoided, but nobody wants to have to give up too much to avoid certain things. It's all about what's worth it to the individual, and not everyone see's life the same, especially when it comes to themselves.

Another way to analyze it's potential humor at a time like this would be to ask, what if you contracted covid 19 and didn't make it? Would that be funny? Ironic? Sad? Depending on how you answer that question would help to answer if you personally believe the song to be palatable right now.

I'd say the song is mostly funny just because it focuses more so on things that could effect you, because you chose to put yourself in a position where they could negatively impact you though that's not their intention. A driver doesn't require a human being to run over, where as something like covid 19 requires a host.

Haven't listened to it but nothing can be more depressing than current reality.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

I like it. We could all use some more satire these days. Life is becoming too serious.

Oh we don't care if you wanna kill yourself. I don't care for much of a long life either but the question becomes do you want anyone you come into contact with to potentially die or to suffer an illness which might have long term effects we aren't aware of. Could be your friends, siblings, patents, grandparents, that random grocery clerk, the delivery guy/girl, someone whose child you partied with and you gave it to them and they gave it to their parent.

That's the point with pandemics and epidemics. It's not all about you, it's about other people. If the choice was as simple as just yourself, the world would react a lot more differently.

Just a guy who doesn't want to be bored. Also

Very fun song

I'm not sure where that came from exactly. Yet I can't help but ask, what if that suicidal person was by chance our worlds "Ellie"?

So when it's not a pandemic, then life is all about you and you don't need to care? Is life ever all about you, or just the opposite maybe?

What is life all about exactly?

you mean the ride cymbal on the drums? (drum machine actually)

Yeah, I agree, it's a very simple arrangement, there's not even a bass line, I was just using this recording to pitch to music publishers, it's not a finished product--wasn't meant to be.  The singer's performance is very strong though, I think he nails it in terms of getting the meaning of the lyrics across, and to me really brings the song to life.

nice thoughtful post.  Yeah it depends on the individual and what having fun is worth to them, what freedom is worth.
