Forums - General Discussion - It's snowing in Brazil

At first I thought "it's snowing in the summer?!" but then I remembered that seasons are reversed in the southern hemisphere, so winter for you guys is June-September, which is summer for us in the northern hemisphere.

10 days away from Spring

Aus is already heating up lol

Yep it happens from time to time... and we will see people using it to prove there is no global warming.

If those people would just understand what the word "global" in global warming stands for^^

They can't because the earth isn't a globe.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

31 days, actually.

Meteorological start. Easier to follow when seasons start on the first of a month.

People talk about how Brazil is a diverse country, so snow shouldn't be surprising. Snow happens every winter in the USA northern states, and sometimes reaches the southern states.

The southern part of Brasil is just as close to the equatorial line as Florida.

Why is everyone so angry ?

This is a clear proof there is no global warming. Its actually getting colder.
Just kidding. This is actually not uncommon in the south of Brazil especially in towns that have a high altitude. A lot of people go to thoswle towns every year in the hopes of seeing snow for the first time.

To all of the posters claiming that this news article does not do anything to disprove global warming, you do realize that if this thread had been reporting unusually warm weather in Brazil, the first 20 posts by the same people would be using the story as a bludgeon to hammer people over the head about the seriousness of "climate change".  Double standards are not scientific, a scientist needs to be equally thrilled at evidence that casts doubt on their theories as evidence that supports their theories.  When we downplay or ignore contrary evidence and only promote the information that we want to believe is right, then we start to step into the world of cult-like thinking.  This attitude was how the world got atrocities like the Chernobyl meltdown, where socialist governments convinced people that they can do no wrong and that caution was unnecessary.

Now, if we expand the behavior that we are seeing within this thread to society at large.  For example, if society only considers the evidence and news stories that we want to be true and we downplay and disregard anything that potentially goes against our beliefs, you can see how it becomes possible for a vast majority of people to arrive at gravely incorrect conclusions.  Keep in mind that we have had religious cults in past centuries where vast majorities of people were convinced that the world was about to end and they took drastic and extreme action on the basis of this belief.

It is important that we always keep an open mind to the possibility that our beliefs are incorrect.  Even if everybody around you in society and in the media is telling you something, does not necessarily mean that it is true.

2020, maybe 2021 will be the year to get over ourselves.
