Tagged games:

So I purchased 7 Xbox one consoles this generation. Five for myself and two as gifts. I even own TWO Kinects. Needless to say, I love the machine.

A lot of that love was because of the features. It gave Smart TV features to my normal TVs. In addition to that, I really loved the ability to "Snap" two apps at once. Playing a game while watching YouTube, watching The Walking Dead (back when it was good) while simultaneously watching WWE Network, etc. It was pretty awesome. A major selling point, actually. I enjoyed it so much, I even purchased HDMI splitters for three of my TVs just so I could say "Xbox, Snap TV" and watch TV while using other XBO features.

So, last year, I bought a new house. I had to disconnect all of my systems. I moved to my new home and began the process of reconnecting my consoles.

I got mad.

All of this extra stuff I bought for a feature that was a major selling point and they just take it away without warning? Without giving us a choice? Why am I still even using the "HDMI in" option?

So I contacted a law firm and composed an email: *See next post*

"So what happened?", you ask?

Nothing.

My lawyer tried to contact Microsoft. My lawyer tried to contact the lawyers from the original PS3 lawsuit. A year has passed and there hasn't even been a response from Microsoft.

Anyway, just thinking about it this morning. Thought I'd share it.

"I. Precedent:

In 2006, Sony released the PlayStation 3 video game console with a multitude of features. After a mandatory system update, a feature that the system launched with was removed. This resulted in a publicized class action lawsuit which Sony lost.

II. Microsoft Xbox One:

In 2013, Microsoft held a press conference for their upcoming Xbox One Console that had a host of features including the ability to "Snap an App" (known simply as "Snap"). With this feature, owners of the console could, for example, watch TV while simultaneously playing a video game or browse the internet while watching Netflix. The hardware was even designed with an "HDMI In" port to take advantage of this option. It also supported voice commands. A user simply needed to say "Xbox, snap Netflix" or "Xbox, snap Achievements" and that app would a use roughly 1/4 of the screen.

III. Removal of the Feature:

Since 2014, I have personally purchased seven Xbox One consoles. Five for personal use. Two as gifts. For three of those consoles, I purchased HDMI splitters for the sole purpose of using the "Snap" feature with my TVs (game room, living room, and bedroom). This feature was advertised as a selling point and used frequently by myself and many other customers. I even mention it multiple times on social media:

In 2017, Microsoft abandoned the feature via a mandatory update. Microsoft promised the "Snap" feature would return even better than before. As of this date, there is no Snap feature or any current information regarding its return or upgrade.

I personally feel that the Snap Feature was a major addition and added value to the console. As mentioned before, I personally purchased three HDMI splitters on Amazon along with HDMI cables to utilize this feature. I am a fan of the Xbox brand of consoles having purchased seven Xbox One consoles in less than six years (five personal, two gifts) and five Xbox 360 consoles (three personal, two as gifts) between 2007 and 2013. The removal of "Snap" has personally impacted me. One simply has to search "Bring back Snap" on the internet to see the outcry for the return of this option.

IV. Intent:

It is my intent to initiate a class action lawsuit against Microsoft and the makers of the Xbox One Video Game Console on behalf of anyone that purchased an Xbox One between 2013 launch window and the removal of the feature in 2017. My goal is either the return of the feature or financial compensation for those affected."

There was a little more but you get the gist.

Why did you buy 5 for yourself?

I get this a lot.

Initially, because of their way of handling cloud saves. I could play a game in one room, turn the console off and go into another room and pick up exactly where I left off. Almost like Netflix or YouTube. It would sync automatically. I could play in my bedroom without leaving my wife alone. That's a major reason why I went all digital.

Then I just loved having "smart TV" features on my normal TVs. WWE Network, YouTube, web browsing, etc. The Xbox One has an app store like you wouldn't believe.

This begs the question: How many TVs do you have?

Thanks! Still a work in progress. My wife has some great ideas to make it even better. I'm just lazy!

I got mine! I think it was like $50 or something. Also got about ten dollars from another class action lawsuit that Sony lost but I can't remember what the reason was. Maybe PS Vita false advertising or something.
