Forums - Sales - Global Hardware July 25 to August 1 - Switch Outsells NES

I was just thinking, "beating the NES lifetime sales is a decent milestone, but those where different times. NES had 90% marketshare in the US one year. Any system that could beat that would be extremely impessive." Then I realized Switch might actually do this in Japan this year. We'll just have to wait and see until the end of the year. It depends on how many people in Japan want a PS5.

PS1 and PS2 were big in Japan. PS3 only sold 10.47 million there, far less than the PS1 and PS2. PS4 is only at 9.2 million. PS5 will be lucky to get 10 million in Japan. I honestly don't think the PS5 will sell more in a year with Switch as a competitor in Japan until 2022.

Lifetime Sales Predictions

Switch: 161 million (was 73 million, then 96 million, then 113 million, then 125 million, then 144 million, then 151 million, then 156 million)

PS5: 122 million (was 105 million, then 115 million) Xbox Series X/S: 38 million (was 60 million, then 67 million, then 57 million. then 48 million. then 40 million)

Switch 2: 120 million (was 116 million)

PS4: 120 mil (was 100 then 130 million, then 122 million) Xbox One: 51 mil (was 50 then 55 mil)

3DS: 75.5 mil (was 73, then 77 million)

Holy upwards adjustment Batman. Seems Switch was undertracked to the tune of what, 1.3 million? Crazy considering how high it's numbers were already.

What's the biggest correction this website has ever seen? Can be negative or positive. If this one was a 1.3 mil correction has there ever been one higher than that?

The pandemic boost seems to well and truly have worn off for PS4/Xbone.

Switch will outsell PS1 easy.

Nes is a behemoth, rebuild US Market from scratch. And first, build the Japanese  console market. If you counter population growth, NES sells gangbuster ins US. Aligned with the best sellers in US. But, Nintendo focuses only on two countries, the other countries are minors sales for the console.

Imagine all those weeks the Switch actually won in Europe ...

This a one kind of a domination there !

Those weeks where I thought 50-odd people in Europe stopped a clean sweep. Switch was sweeping through the whole time. It was all a lie...

I doubt PS1 or PS2 ever got close to a 90% annual market share in Japan, especially when the handheld market is factored it.  Switch might actually get 90%+ this year even with both home and handheld markets lumped together.

That is probably true. Nintendo is rated E for everyone.

13.7 million, eh?

It has a good chance of doing that by the end of the year.

End of the fiscal year is more like it. You'd be asking for calendar year 2020 to be above 26m in sell-through otherwise. Not impossible, but rather a slim chance than a good one.

I think it just depends on how many switches Ninty can actually make. I sincerely believe that if they can make 28 mil, they'll sell 28 mil.
