VGC us. We’re a fandom.
Anything involving gaming and community is going to be toxic in some way or another. There are always going people who are going to be deeply disturbed.. that's practically in every industry. But there are also communities like here, that bring people together. When its not all console wars, its nice to talk and discuss with others about games.
For me the most fun I have is playing VG's with close friends. Ignore the bs and just have fun, that's what video games are intended for. The internet can be a cesspit though. Getting death threats over a fictional character is just beyond sad.
The worst Rocket League pros have done is being a bit toxic while playing. Probably because most of them aren't old enough to be interested in sex yet.
If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

As for OP. Every fandom has toxic people including ones that you would think are innocent cause eventually, even those get toxic. But that doesn't mean everyone in that community is a terrible person though as there are plenty of good people.
So if you are looking for a fandom that has no toxicity, good luck. Cause even if one doesn't right now, eventually it could like how swapnote on the 3ds had an incident in Japan where minors were sharing Friend Codes with strangers who had exploited the messaging service to allegedly exchange pornographic imagery.
