This looks like such an obvious fan render.

And the PS5 showcase is a digital event. Why would this situation in this picture even exist?

Personally looks too realistic to be a render imo. Could be a 3D print job though, we’ve seen fakers do that before.

Might not be from the digital event, could have been taken from a presentation of the system to developers months ago possibly. Or it could be fake of course.

Makes zero sense to be a presentation for devs months ago.

Devs don`t really need to see the console itself for anything and that would have leaked long ago if that was the case.

It's an Xbox One VCR.

Speaking of which, I remember this skin that was produced for the OG Xbox One:

That wood veneer paneling and brushed nickel face reminds me so much of an 80s-era VCR. In fact, I remember a lot of home electronics had a similar aesthetic, including my father's old stereo system:

Honestly, I wish modern consoles had an official old-school edition with wood veneer paneling.

Same !

Love classic looking things and it would fit perfectly with my old heavy oaken furniture. :p

Doesn't need to be bigger fans.

Cooling is generally a function of thermal conductivity of the cooler in conjunction with airflow.

So if all things other than fans are kept equal...
You can achieve the same amount of cooling with multiple fans instead of one large one.
Or you can achieve the same amount of cooling with a smaller, higher RPM fan rather than a larger, slower one.

Obviously the trade off is going to be additional noise, additional points of failure and/or a tiny increase in power consumption.
But considering the noise profile of the Playstation 4 typically exceeded the Xbox One, Sony may not see fit to prioritize on that front as it didn't hinder the Playstation 4's success at all.

I agree that a large fan isn't the only possibility. They could probably get away with three 80mm fans on the back and sides of the system, designed for push-pull. But that would be more expensive than a single large 140mm fan like MS is using on XSX. For these companies, every extra dollar on the bill of materials adds up in the long term.

I do think they are going to want to avoid making PS5 super noisy like PS4 Pro. It may not have hurt PS4 Pro sales, but I've spoken to several other PS4 Pro owners like myself who bought it without realizing just how noisy it would be, who say that they won't buy a base PS5 if it is noisy, and will wait on a quieter PS5 revision or PS5 Pro. And if they want it to be quiet, they're either going to need alot of small fans or 1 large fan.

Cerny in his reveal said that they had done a poor job in estimating power usage in the past and talked about his own  Pro's noise. their constant power, variable frequency strategy is part of  overcoming thermal issues, the details of the cooling system itself will be revealed in a future teardown, but I expect a more progressive approach to cooling much like MS has done with the series x design rather than the usual larger fan and heatsink,

then again this is them showing off the PS4 cooling  https://vrzone.com/articles/sony-engineer-unveils-functional-beauty-ps4s-cooling-system/69852.html

Nice. Was hoping for a new game from FromSoftware, but I'll take a DS remake for PC tyvm!

Unless Sony is getting their teams to make 2 versions of their games, which i highly doubt, you went be seeing Sony PS5 exclusives on PC for quite a few years.

The SSD capabilities will ensure this.

They could have a streaming service on PC no?

But yeah high chance that it will take some years.

Oh like PSNow?

I suppose that's possible but I'm not sure Sony would do it since their urgent model works.

Prove what? That the SSD and is as revolutionary as it sounds?

I'm basing this on what has been said and discussed about the PS5.

How is it revolutionary from anything that has been done before? How is it going to provide demonstrable advantages that no other platform can have?

SSD's have been around for over 10+ years remember, it's actually an old technology.

It has been around for a good amount of years and been slightly too expensive to consider mainstream,i do think we will get the full effects of SSD on our markets when just everyone uses them and it has replaced the slower memory's fully.

I'm not going to go into details because I don't think I can adequately speak to that.

Like I said, it's based on what others are saying. So for now I'll take their word for it. If it ends up being nothing then it ends up being nothing.

Tech improves all the time. It doesn't matter if SSDs are a year old, 10 years years old, 100 years old

It does matter if people are attaching a label of "revolutionary" to it.

SSD tech like Pemalite stated has been around for ten + years, but all that means is like Twintail said it has improved moving it further along it's S curve, with the consoles moving to SSD's  we should  see a further push. toward SSD's for all intents and purposes replacing HDD for good, how far along we are to that happening I don't know but better informed people like Pem and others might, now back to why I feel that Sony's vision or call it what you want will make a difference its simply because of the extra steps they took meshing everything together its already made IO a hot topic and when in the future we see not only even better IO but better usage  across the board  it will be on one level due to the way tech simply  improves but another part will be have been driven off the back of the Sony approach .
