Forums - Sony Discussion - Official PS5 Reveal Leaks Topic

Its a placeholder price. In any case £600 would be pretty reasonable for 2tb model, considering the quantity and speed of the SSD. Its pretty much cutting edge right now.

I have my doubts that they will launch with 2 SKU's and they'll just have one with 825gb base. In any case if Sony does launch with a 2TB SKU I will opt for that.

100-150 difference from 825Gb to 1,75 Tb could be reasonable and make a lot of people choose the more expensive. Since I don't want to have an extra SSD I would make the calculation on the cost per Gb and if the 2Tb did see good value I would go for it as well.

Yeah I mean 825gb is quite small and I would have no trouble filling that up in a years time. £100 extra for 1.15tb is really good especially since we won't have to wait for a compatible 7GB/s NVMe drive, that will be more expensive coming from retail vendors.

Assuming there is a 2tb SKU. I would like to see a £499 base model and £599 2tb model. Of course the lower the better but yeah I don't think these consoles will come cheap.

Cerny specifically said that 825 was the ideal storage solution. So the next would be 1650.

That was in reguards to cost of drives, and it effecting the price of the PS5.
Ei. It was a sweetspot between whats needed by avg consumer vs "bang for buck" with SSD prices, and effect of a bigger drives on total system costs.

They balanced these 3 things, and went with 825GB.

All the old PS4 games can be run off a external normal HDD.
I wouldn't be surprised if most indie games can as well, and some few PS5 games from 3rd party that also release on PS4s.

So basically that 825 gb is just for the PS5 games that need it.
Its probably still recammended to get a external drive, if your a person that likes to have alot of games installed.
(and install everything that doesnt need the SSD, on the external drive)

I went to bed last night and the last thing I saw was a still from some alleged Batman game (WB Montreal). Looked shady as hell, but did anything come out of it??

That's not quite the case.

Cerny said "that for 12 channels, 825 GB is the most natural choice."

He said that before going into the discussion about the sweet spot.

The reason why is because chips are made in multiples of 2: 2 GiB, 4 GiB, etc.  The PS5 is using 12 64GiB modules.  The next step up is that 12 128 GiB modules.

Note that 12*64GiB = 768 GiB = 824.6 GB.

For 1Tb only if perhaps Sony have a smaller SSD soldered on the board with slower speed but just for OS and apps.
