So, the UE5 tech demo running on PS5 is certainly pretty; the lighting and the use of actual geometry where current gen would use normal maps stood out as notable steps up.

Still, it is a tech demo, and those tend to look better than actual games due to not having to worry about running real time game logic, AI, physics, a free camera, etc.

not much aslong as it matches my max TV output im good

Instead of seeking to convince others, we can be open to changing our own minds, and seek out information that contradicts our own steadfast point of view. Maybe it’ll turn out that those who disagree with you actually have a solid grasp of the facts. There’s a slight possibility that, after all, you’re the one who’s wrong.

As long as it is HD and doesn’t look like I’m playing with LEGOs then it doesn’t really matter. Graphics as this point don’t add much to experience.

There were camera freedom, but you are right that it is much simpler to make it look a lot better than a full game.

Ah, good to know.

Having now sacrificed a chunk of my limited data to watch it in HD, it is quite impressive, mostly the sheer density of detail in the environment. It kinda looks like what my naive arse thought this gen would look like back in 2009/2010 when I knew fuck all about graphics tech lmao

Well we told you that there would be a big jump in quality even if you don't concern over it.

And the good part is that UE5 probably will support Switch and with the NVidia reconstruction technique, it is quite possible that you may see some improvement in the graphics on Switch as well.

I never said there wouldn't be a significant step up, I just wasn't sure how significant the end result would be to my subjective eyeballs haha

And yeah, definitely looking forward to see if UE5 brings benefits to the Switch. UE4 produced some strong results on the system like Hellblade, The Vanishing of Ethan Carter, Yoshi's Crafted World, etc.

I do.

I have been playing FFVIIR and there are so much low textures and etc which would be less of a thing with more powerful hardware.

As as example:

Now there are obviously games that still manage to look fantastic but even those have issues from time to time.

I think that's just lazy effort though because there are other areas in the game that have very nice looking textures and other sections of the game that look like a CG movie.

Which I think highlights another problem -- just because you have hardware doesn't mean the hardware is going to do the hard work of texturing, animating, etc. for you. There's a reason CG movies cost hundreds of millions of dollars, you still have to put in the work.

Don't worry I understand what you ment, you don't care as much about the eye candy as I do so the amount we both would consider significant also would vary. I'm just happy that you were positively impressed.

My expectations were definitely exceeded as far as graphics go. I hope the leap in CPU and memory also leads to gameplay improvements like physics and AI, more dynamic, interactive, and lifelike worlds.
