It would have been a much safer direction than using a regilion. There are heaps of options like make up a Redneck cult or something along the lines, its the end of days, cults will sporn on these times and actually makes alot of sense.

Amy left ND 6 years ago lol. Besides she has been replaced with Halley Gross a writer who's worked on big stuff like HBO's Westworld. I have no idea why anyone would think TLOU2 isn't going to deliver. IGN was completely in awe when they played it and my guess is that the story will be one of the most shocking and memorable in gaming history. 

That would be pretty convenient though. He/She just happens to be the son/daughter (do we know which way this character goes? Is Abby the new name or the birth name?) of a doctor that happens to have a stash of pretty specific gender affecting hormones, something a doctor shouldn't have lying around in their house, and then have enough of it to last at least a quarter century.

Ones an actual game designer the other has never designed a single game is nothing more than a head to sell games for the company, games like art are there to invoke emotion, there's nothing wrong with a dark and gritty story that makes you uncomfortable. 

I'd also like to note for people saying Joel only killed two unarmed people, did people not even listen to what Joel did in the wake of the disaster, he killed many innocent people "oh he aren't even hurt", I wonder why he knew that.
