I'm still guessing the new Factor5 game will either be a new Turrican title or a Wii version of Lair. They're comment that the engine does "everything the PS3 engine did and then some" sounds like they're simply modifying an engine used on a PS3 game, and the only one they have to choose from is Lair.

Factor5 is good at pushing graphical capabilities of a system, which is something the Wii needs. Someone to finally push it graphically. Factor5, however, does have a history with games not always having the best frame rates, though, which can be a side-effect of their graphical push.

They don't own the IP rights to Lair. Sony does, so no Lair for Wii.

Optimistic predictions for 2008 (Feb 5 2008): Wii = 20M, PS3 = 14M, X360 = 9.5M

Julian Eggebrecht, Factor 5 are very good developers, one of the best at getting the most out of a console. Look at Rouge Leader 2, a launch title on the GC, which was one the best looking games on the GC fullstop.

The problems with Lair is mostly from them bashing their heads against the wall with ps3 stupid architecture. But when they team up with Nintendo the kings of gameplay and Factor 5 genius's at pushing hardware, it can only result in massive win for wii owners.

Conspiracy theory here, maybe Nintendo and Factor 5 were in co-hoots making lairs shit. Maybe Nintendo let Factor 5 goto make the ps3 game, so F5 could get some easy cash from sony, on the understanding that they can make it look good, but play shit because that was what sony was wanting at the time, shiny graphics to show off. Then when they finish f5 can go back to Nintendo and making great games again.

Nintendo win, making a big sony game fail.

F5 win, they get sony money and get to comeback to Nintendo when they had more work for them.

-UBISOFT BOYCOTT!-

Factor 5 neede to develop a game for the PS3 because they needed money like any other job. They didn't BLAME Nintendo for anything. Nintendo just wasn't ready yet. So in the meantime, instead of waiting and not making money, they cashed in on a PS3 game. Good or bad, they returned when Nintendo got settled and are working on their next project. Hopefully its good.

That gives some legs to the rumor that Sony "forced" Factor5 to make the game controllable only with the SIXAXIS motion, then. Early reports indicated that the game could be controlled with a normal dual-analog controller. 1up.com, at one point, actually blamed Sony outright for "forcing Factor5 to make Lair controllable only with the motion-controls," and indicated that it was probably a last-minute implementation.  It wasn't in a normal article or the Lair review, I recall it being in an editorial of some sort.

After their success with the N64 and Gamecube, I think there were people within Factor 5 who thought that they could achieve excellent sales by pushing the envelope of what the PS3 could do. From what I hear, a lot of the problems with Lair are associated with performance issues and bugs which could be blamed on the development team overestimating the capabilities of the PS3 and then spending way too much time optimizing the code and ignoring the growing bug list.

We've discussed this article already two months ago and the title of this thread is very misleading.

There's no mention in the article that Factor 5's Wii game will look like a PS3 game, their Wii engine is capable of producing the same effects as their PS3 engine, that's all. It doesn't mean that their Wii game will have as many things going on at the same time as Lair (also see HappySqurriel's post).

Shoo RolStoppable.  Can't you see we're busy bashing Factor 5 here?

I'm with RolStoppable and HappySqurriel on this one, I'm sure he meant it's doing all of the same effects and shaders and so forth, remember f5 did incredible things on the GC hardware, most of which other developers never did, I don't think the intention was to say it'd look like a ps3 game as that just be nutty

Hey Rol, I was going to swoop in and complain about this thread being old news. Anyway, if more info appears that isn't over two months, we should open the thread's discussion back up.
