Crysis starts off as an interesting game then becomes a generic game as soon as the aliens show up. Could have been a cool stealth ops FPS.

Generic game, you say?
Mankind, in its arrogance and self-delusion, must believe they are the mirrors to God in both their image and their power. If something shatters that mirror, then it must be totally destroyed.
I honestly never played a whole lot of the original Crysis. At the time, I was pretty busy playing Halo 3 pretty much nonstop. I got into the franchise with Crysis 2, and even though I understand it wasn't particularly popular with the established fanbase for various reasons, it honestly has a special place in my heart. I met several lifelong friends on that game, and we basically ran the scene on the MP on 360 to the point where I don't think I'm exaggerating when I say we likely caused a lot of people to rage quit that game forever. Sadly, the game didn't have a great life cycle, to the point that the DLC maps they released were pretty much unplayable unless you got your own full party together. Nevertheless, I still consider it one of my favorite multiplayer experiences, up there with Battlefield 3, Titanfall, Gears 2, and the aforementioned Halo 3.
Crysis 3 sadly dumbed down the energy management aspect of the game, by giving players separate bars for power and stealth mode, which meant you really kinda lost that balancing act, and people were always in one or the other with very little down time. Also the game's net code seemed like it got worse.
In any case, I'll pick up this remaster on the hopes that it will lead to a Crysis 4 at some point down the road alone, but I am actually genuinely curious how the first game has held up from a gameplay perspective. Again, I only ever played the original in brief bursts, but I very much remember it as a technical showpiece more than anything. I am a little worried though that in this new age of open world games, and a certain amount of open world fatigue setting in (I know I've felt it a few times at this point), this may be the wrong game at the wrong time.

i wonder if the cryengine in it's present form is much easier to optimise for.

Okay someone can tell Rockstar they can port GTAV over to Switch now. Hell I'd take Bully Scholarship edition at this point. All these other companies porting games or remasters to Switch makes Rockstar look lazier than EA.

Whoa, I did not realize we were up to Cryengine 5.6. With the new effects, hopefully res is good, like a locked 720p docked at least would be nice. |
Warface on Switch is using the latest Cryengine , we might see similar result with Crysis Remake on Switch. I add some link to Switch gameplay on Warface
I also add Game demo presentation of Tegra X on Shield running Crysis 3 with old engine, i bet with new engine it will run very efficient and better on Switch
