Forums - Sales - March NPD 2020 Thread: Switch > 1 million

Hot damn! No wonder the stock was completely wiped out. Glad Nintendo managed to have close to 1million Switch stock for the month.

While there aren't concrete numbers I have clearly undertracked all 3 consoles in March. ResetEra has figures at 906,000+ for Switch (Could be over 1 million for all we know), and PS4 around 316,000 and Xbox One around 276,000. I'll get to making adjustments after I go through some of the daily news.

Here is what I posted on era, as

Mat Piscatella said NSW posted the highest Q1 UNIT sales since NDS in 2010.

Based on what I have archived:

NDS Q1

07: 1,232K

08: 1,536K

09: 1,661K

10: 1,736K

11: 1,266K

Nothing else recent even comes close.  Highest ever I see is Wii 09 at 2,033K.  PS2 hit ~1,500 back in 2005.

Based on the ranges posted for 2020 JAN/FEB, NSW was at ~605K for the year.

So rough range for NSW March 2020 is 907K < NSW < 1,131K.

All-time sales for March;

SWI - 907,000+ (2020)
SWI - 906,000 (2017)
GBA - 838,000 (2003)
Wii - 721,000 (2008)
DS - 701,000 (2010)
DS - 698,000 (2008)
Wii - 601,000 (2009)
DS - 563,000 (2009)
Wii - 557,000 (2010)
DS - 509,000 (2007)

Wow.  Really puts the whole "Nintendo only moves significant amounts of hardware as Christmas presents for kids" myth into perspective.

Animal Crossing has already outsold New Leaf? Insane.

There is no way it won't have the largest first quarter of any other Switch game to date so far and thats without a holiday launch. Mario Kart 8 finally has a worthy competitor for top selling Switch game lifetime.

As for the Switch itself Benji wasn't kidding when he said this was selling like peak Wii days.

Thank you for the information.

We got leaks/hints as well now.

NSW Hardware is a little over 1M.

Animal Crossing Physical sales are just below 2M (and guess at digital was close to 50%).

Absolutely crazy sales for Switch, congrats to breaking records.

MLB the show also set a record for their franchise.

Also, really surprised at Persona 5 Royal sales. 7th on the overall list and sold better than the PS4 sku of RE3.

"Only Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and Super Smash Bros. Brawl had larger launches. "

Anyone have the first month sales of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and Brawl handy?

Signature goes here!

Insane numbers... wasn't expecting that at all tbh. People saying Nintendo lowballed for the Switch units for AC's launch like... how can you predict it will sell that much lmaoooo.

AC's digital ratio should be pretty incredible too. Excited for the WW numbers from Nintendo.

The record sales for consoles will still likely continue in this month too. Benji just said FF7R is moving a lot of HW for PS4 in the last 2 weeks. Obviously not as much as Switch mind you but sales are exploding it seems.

Crazy numbers, wow
