Switch more than double both the others combined, with shortages and in March to boot.

I knew Animal Crossing was gonna be big, but I didn't expect it to be THIS gargantuan.

PS4 is losing its 50% marketshare any day now.

Switch > 2(PS4+XOne).

Wow. Though I think the pandemic played nearly as much of a roll in the huge Switch sales spike as did Animal Crossing.

It really was a case of the right game at the right time; it was gonna be huge anyway, but a relaxing life sim in a time where people are cooped up at home and stressed out by scary circumstances? Like selling sunscreen at an Australian nudist colony.

Indeed a most fortuitous circumstance. Imagine how conflicted people at Nintendo must be right now.  Saddened at the pandemic but elated at the increased sales from it.

Probably also frustrated that now that demand for their system is through the roof, they can't ship enough hardware to meet said demand.

Indeed.  There must be several conflicting feelings within the company...especially depending on the department.

True, I'm not sure if they've shifted to working from home yet but if so that's gotta frustrate the game development side as it'll be harder for them to get their work done.

Speaking of Nintendo staff though, Aya Kyogoku's gotta be feeling pretty proud; AC:NH is her directorial debut and it's gotta feel good for your first game to be such an absolute gigaton.

Total Combined PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 Sales: 142,530,973

Total Combined PlayStation 4 and Xbox One Sales: 155,069,294

In March 2020 the gap grew in favor of the combined sales PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 when compared to the aligned launch of the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in the last month by 297,891 units. In the last 12 months the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 have caught up by 7.06 million units. The PlayStation 4 and Xbox One lead by a combined 12.54 million units.

The PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in their first 77 months sold a combined 142.53 million units, while the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One have sold a combined 155.07 million units.

The PS3 and X360 sold a combined 173.22 million units lifetime. The PS4 and XOne are currently 18.15 million units away from surpassing the PS3 and X360.

Last gen had much better legs than this one, but the lead this gen has built up over its earlier years is big enough that it should still end up on top at the end of the day.

360 had gotten a second wind around this time while Xbone has dropped to a trickle.

The game straight up became a phenomenon. It is everywhere, and it "feels" like the biggest Switch release to date. Which says a lot when you have BotW, Odyssey, Smash, and Pokemon in your library.

Can PS4 and Xbox One sell 18.15 more units before they stop selling?  It is very likely. Though I doubt they will end up selling much more than that.

I reckon they can; PS4 alone should be able to get close to that by the time it's discontinued.
