If I was alone in battle, I would agree. I don't expect to be automatically healed in every videogame. But if I have allies and they have the capacity to heal, I don't think it's silly to expect that they would heal themsleves or you at times. Is not a major problem, especially in a game where you can pretty much stop time... but I think it's acceptable to expect such feature.

If the AI doesn't attack to what it should attack and it isn't able to heal anyone... what's even the point of having an allied AI?

To manage the characters basic attacks & movements whilst their ATB bar fills up. This is also why there is a classic mode where you only control the ATB. It's a direct function of the game to cast spells/skills from any character at any time, just like traditional turn based combat. I think there will be a learning curve where pple adjust expectations of how the game is intended to be played

And wouldn't be better if the AI party members actually did something other than just filling an ATB bar with mindless attacks, often towards enemies that they can't reach? I don't know, I think this system could have been implemented a lot better by just having a better AI for party members. If their only purpose is to fill the ATB bar and they are only truly useful once you take control over them... I think a different approach for the battle system would have suited the game better, one were you take a more direct control over everyone. Maybe classic mode should have been the main mode.

Or you know... maybe they just should have done a decent AI for party members. Is not that complicated. Kingdom Hearts did it back in 2002. We are in 2020. If Barret is supposed to shoot at the flying enemies that Cloud cannot reach, the AI should just do that. If Cloud is dying and I'm controlling Barret, I think Cloud should be smart enough to heal itself from time to time. If they don't do any of this, it feels like I'm surrounded by mindless idiots.

This is objectively true though.
The only tactic in this portion of the original is whether to use bolt, attack or heal.

All of this remains + Speeding up pace of ATB gauge with standard attacks, dogding, blocking, using defensive cover

Attack with Barret is holding sqaure, or charging his more powerful attack with triangle, or using x to select one of his skills including thunder, cure, protection, or his other power shot.

Just say you don't like the gameplay style instead of making false statements and pretending like you can't go through this portion of the original through tapping X 99% of the time.

None of what I said is false in anyway. Why are you trying to convince me that my opinion on what FF7 gameplay is is wrong? The gameplay in this is good, it's just not FF7. It's KH.

Just say you don't like FF7, instead of making false statements about what this game is.

Hmm, pie.

Unfortunately for all of us, this is nothing like Kingdom Hearts.

People complaining about the AI, heal yourself man lol don't need the game to be holding your hand through everything xD

It is more than that.  When I was controlling Barrett, Cloud could have cast Fire on the distant turret guns....  instead he just sat there.  Good AI makes a game feel more real, bad AI does the opposite.  The game, based on the demo, has flaws.  Another example was when I was Cloud attacking close enemies....  so was Barrett, he ignored the distant guns he was designed to specifically attack.  The AI leaves a lot to the imagination.  I would like to see them improve this prior to release.  And as already pointed out, Square NAILED partner AI with XII, it has been done before.  What is nice about a FFXII system, those who are claiming to want stupid allies, well that would be an option.  Those who want common sense allies, a XII system would allow that.

Edit

And Barrett, outside battles, got stuck running repeatedly into the lasers....

That's...  very childish.

Anyway, if this was anything like KH AT LEAST it would feel very responsive and fun to play and party members would be actually useful on their own (unless we are talking KH II. On that one party members sucked real bad).

Restored my faith in Square Enix in 1h30mins.

And that's not nostalgia speaking, its simply an amazingly polished demo. Pacing, visuals, music, gameplay, storytelling... Everything hits the right notes. So refreshing after the mess that was FFXV.

And it serves as a reminder, it really is ok to make some things linear or to have the world broken into sections. It's clearly helped this game achieve a level of visual fidelity few PS4 games has and helped the pacing. Makes me wonder if we really need PS5 this fall.

I loved the demo but after a few play throughs now, I'm starting to think the pacing was excellent until you reach the scorpion fight. Is it me or does it take just waaaay too much effort to take it down? I mean, it's overkill. What should take no more than 5-10 min is taking like 15-20 minutes. The battle was great the first time as I was just blown away by everything that was presented but now, I feel this fight just drags on and I hope it's not what to expect with other even more demanding battles.

Button mashing bullcrap, even has 'stagger'. So much for this being a remake.

Why does Cloud keep doing those heavy sighs?

Yep, I gotta say....they still made him depressive. I never got that from him in the original. I agree, those sighs are becoming annoying. He comes across as "weak"-minded.

KH combat is trash. Square has never been good at Action RPGs. Falcom on the other hand...
