Forums - Sales Discussion - December NPD 2019

Bloody hell it feels so good to get NPD numbers again, I'd almost given up on them after so many months without.

So Switch did indeed have the best December of any system in the last 8 years, nice.

That PS4 dropped was harder than many people thought. Even at $249 with 3 free games for 2 weeks it failed to pass the 700k mark. Next year is going to be harder for PS4 at the current MSRP.

I'm saying that for months now: The PS4's sales will be coming down fast, very fast.

I mean, just look at the weekly sales: The lowest the PS4 hit last year was 175k and now it's already at 156k in January - and the first 3 months are generally higher than the 6 who follow afterwards (outside of big releases and/or promotions during that period).

Yep, the PS4 numbers are expected. People are predicting too high of numbers for the PS4 at its high price.

A price cut PS4 on the other hand... But we know that won't happen with PS5 coming.

Let’s hope for more numbers this year

2 million with no price drop!

That $199 entry price for Switch is did wonders this past holiday season.

Yep and the fact both can coexist each other without having a price drop is amazing. Its like how phones have the OG version and a +version when they launch.

according to benji on twitter, the ratio of switch OG to switch lite is more than 3:1 (and that was pretty early on), so it's still the 299 SKU doing most of the work.

Yeah, he said sales of the Lite during the holidays were less than impressive. It's definitely the main unit doing the lion's share.

Sure, let's pretend the lite did anything major. Sales show it's not very desirable.
