Since the Outriders servers have crashed again I'll leave some first impressions. I'm like 4-5 hours in.

The Bad

  • The servers suck. This is probably due to the game being on the game pass and having modest success on PC. The servers being cross-play doesn't help either. They really should have had the solo experience playable offline but oh well this only a temporary issue.
  • The voice acting is really bad but it's bearable.
  • The graphics are dull and I have noticed a fair bit of pop in on the Xbox Series X.
  • Having to constantly return to the hub world after each mission sucks. I wish I could easily transition from one mission to another without having to make a pit stop at the main hub but I understand that this si where most of the cutscenes take place and it's essential for the story to be told.
  • The first hour of the game is pretty bland. I actually stopped playing the alpha earlier this year because of this opening. The game really does start to be fun the more you play s you unlock more abilities and more loot drops but PCF really should have put more time into the opening because it's going to steer a lot of people away as it did for me when I played the alpha
  • There is no mission variety in the main story. You got to an objective place a flag, engage in a firefight, repeat, and then have a boss battle. There are side quests and maybe there is variety there but I have yet to do one.

The Good

  • The loading times on the Series X usually take 3-6 seconds. I've seen that it could take upwards to 25 seconds on last-gen so I'm glad they took advantage of the SSD.
  • The gameplay here feels really good. I'm a big fan of how the gunplay feels and the animations between shooting, reloading, and using your powers feel really good.
  • The powers are amazing and it's really what differentiates the game from stuff like Destiny. You get 3 ability slots that you can use as you unlock more powers and the cooldown is pretty quick so you find yourself constantly using your powers while in Destiny your ability cooldown takes a while and you only have one ability at a time.
  • The difficulty is also really good. There is a teir system and its progress ad you play along but you can also adjust down if it's too hard. But overall no gunfight feels like a bleeze or feels too easy. I'm also a big fan of how if I'm at really low health the game rewards you for getting aggressive instead of just hiding being a wall to regen health. For my class, I have the ability where I can steal health from an enemy and my other abilities if I kill an enemy while using an ability on them I gain health so in tight fights, I have to stay mobile and aggressive which adds tot the fun.
  • The story and lore is actually pretty interesting but like I mentioned earlier the voice acting sucks so it's hard to get immersed in the world.
  • There is a good variety of enemies you fight. I've seen your regular soldiers, super soldiers boss fights, a different variation of monsters with different abilities, and their corresponding bosses.

Overall I'm enjoying the game so far and am excited to play more when the servers are back up. I could actually see myself buying this game if it weren't on game pass if I watched streams or followed the reddit and twitter community for gameplay.

I can agree with this but I have no problems with the voice acting.  People Can Fly seem to love cheezy style voice acting and to be honest it goes well with this game.

As for the gameplay itself, I would say anyone who played the demo, get to the point where you unlock all 3 of your powers and the gameplay opens up.  Also, playing the game like Gears or even Destiny will see you die a lot as the game seems to be geared towards you using your powers often and in combinations to stay alive.  Also when you start to unlock better weapons and gear they also beef up your powers allowing you to customize how you want to play the game as well as how you treat individual abilities.  I would say the loot and shoot part of the game is where it excels way better than Destiny but the environments definitely could use more diversity in that they could be more original.  So far I am having a lot of fun with the game and it does open up from the drab war torn section once you get your ride.

I played Outriders last night and was enjoying it. Now I'm stuck on the 1st main boss with electric powers. Bosses show how the game is meant to be played with a squad. I tried to do some matchmaking but it wasn't working. I also don't really care for the character class I picked so I might switch it before I get any farther.

If the game gets tough you can lower your world tier and then bump it back up when you have a better set of gear.

Gotcha, thanks. I didn't know that.

Yeah the first boss is tough you have no gear or know the game yet but I found after level 8-10 the game got a lot faster paced and easier as I got better gear and moding it right to mitigate damage and sustain health etc then I found the game kept getting slightly easier each tier until World level 11 then it's started to increase again but generally keeping your weapons at the level cap and armour somewhat close and it's fine but been a few levels down with your weapons slows you down so don't be afraid to use your materials including titanium to keep your main weapon maxed out as you get plenty of it.

What Class did you choose.  Boss are hard because if your ability depends on killing to gain health well one boss kind of kill that and the first boss is tough with all his abilities.  I choose the Trickster since I can teleport behind the boss, activate my energy sword then hit him with everything I got and by the time it leaves rush away.  Also having equipment that gains you health on close range also helps alot since depending on your class.

I picked Trickster as well. I use the slow time bubble ability, slash, and spam him with shots, retreat behind cover, but he still does damage. I'll give it another go later today. If there was other enemies around, I would have beat it already, but since there is no way to gain health, it's been a pain. I might lower the world tier if I continue to struggle.

So I am guessing the gear you have do not gain you any health when using your ability or shooting in close range.  You can also try to farm the few side quest to upgrade your gear with some perks to make it more manageable without dropping the tier as that will affect the loot drop.

I only get health with kills. I'll check out my gear and see if there is anything I can change or upgrade, and do a couple of side quests.
