For the best.

Now I hope Xbox has some acquisitions close to finalised they can resume cause they definitely need more studios still.

With Sony now looking acquire new studios as well MS can’t stop now, I would be satisfied with Techland and Crytek considering how many AAA studios there are left out there. Asobo is a no brainer though.

20:00 ~ 20:50 - Xbox Tokyo Game Show Showcase 2020

Seems to be 50 minutes long, still I expect it will mostly be Game Pass marketing for 3rd party titles coming to the service and xCloud news for Japan. I don't expect much in terms of major exclusive announcements or acquisitions.

XCloud not being available on IOS will hurt in Japan. If I'm not mistaken, Japan is Apple land when comes to smartphones.

Uhm what's the point then? Are they showing a compilation video of Japanese 360 and X1 games or what exactly are they doing?

No new next gen news! Because why should we! Everyone is already laughing about us even though we started strong with next gen stuff in 2019!

How a company can manage to go from "damn, they are crushing it" to "do they even try to sell their consoles?" in such a short time is just nuts.

Now it's TGS close before XSX release and they show us...some Minecraft creations...

I'm Sure Japanese devs will be convinced that MS takes Japan serious.

My AAA/AAA capable acquisition wishlist with WB no longer on the table:

1. Bungie (I know it's very unlikely, but would be huge to get them back before their new IP releases in 2024)

2. Asobo (no brainer here, their technical expertise would augment Microsoft's other technically capable studios, they have multiple teams, at least one of which could be used for dedicated support, something MS badly needs; they have the Flight Sim team, the story driven Plague Tale team, plus racing experience which could be used for a 3rd racing franchise to put racing on a 3 year rotation with no gap years)

3. Crytek (they own both the Crysis and Ryse IP's, which both have potential for success, they also have technical expertise and their own engine which MS could possibly switch some other 1st party studios to so that they aren't relying on Unreal quite so much)

4. Remedy (while they have never been a studio that was hugely successful in terms of sales, they are the best remaining AAA indie studio when it comes to story driven action-adventure, the one area where MS is weakest and where Sony is strongest. Room for growth and expansion here that could eventually put them up against the best of Sony's AAA story driven action-adventure studios)

5. Sumo (much like Asobo they have lots of teams, but even more than Asobo, which would make them a great support studio. They have even more racing experience than Asobo making them the perfect choice for a 3rd Xbox racing franchise to move racing onto a 3 year rotation, However, they are also very expensive, worth around $400m currently on the stock market)

6. Techland (strong sales potential here given the success of Dead Island 1 and Dying Light, they have a Skyrim like RPG in development too, which would further supplement Microsoft's already strong WRPG lineup)

Pretty much that list for me :)

Except for Bungie. I know this will be unpopular but I never like them as a standalone studio and really believe Halo success was mainly because of Microsoft's involvement.
Now, you can argue that if they are back with Microsoft, maybe it will be the case again and the influence will help them delivering something good but I really believe any other option out there are better than them in term of Expertise/Track records/Talents/IPs (I am not a big fan of Destiny as you can tell :))

Asobo is really at the top of my list. You mention their differents teams and do not forget about the VR and AR one too. They developed "Fragments", the game is amazing (pretty much the one I played the most on my Hololens). They also built a tool for that (https://www.holoforge.io/). While I'm fine not having Microsoft spending resources in VR/AR for gaming (I think this will never become mainstream anyway soon); having a studio with that expertise cannot hurt.

Looks like my expectations for TGS were spot on.

They are overdue for a hardware and services showcase, but they also playing chicken with Sony. Looks like Ms feeling the pressure more as the underdog, but I feel they will go almost immediately after Sony blinks.

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

MS just seem completely unprepared for next Gen, very likely that I don’t do a day 1 purchase now unless they announce a good trade in program.

We've got Yakuza, Dragon Quest, all the Kingdom Hearts games, Nier games and Tales of.

It's not perfect since a lot of japanese games still skip Xbox but there's definitely progress being made in that area.

Lol, yep. Imo, all gaming events outside of E3 are terribly boring and lacking in big news reveals. Why I never bother watching them.
