I'm around the same point in the game as you. Though, I've been playing it solo as the game doesn't have cross-play yet.

Couch co-op? Cross-play would be nice too. But my biggest gripe is that you can't play online and couch co-op at the same time. It's odd how it's not possible..

Well that and A button used for both attack and revive. Makes it annoying when trying to clear mobs around your fallen buddy.

Right now I've got no one to couch co-op with. My girlfriend is British and I'm from the US. Her ESTA expired and she had to fly home a month ago, despite the pandemic. I'm waiting for it to be safer to fly, before I visit her. She has an Xbox One S I purchased, but she has been using my account to play games I already own or are on Game Pass. Sadly, we both can't just be logged into my account and buying a game I could play for "free" doesn't seem worth it.

Set her console to your "home Xbox".

That way she can use your Gold and Game Pass subscriptions with any account that is logged in on that console.

At the same time you're able to use Game Pass and Gold with your account on any console.

This reminds me how lucky I am that my ex and current GF flew in from France before the lockdowns started so she'd have to hunker down with me since Colombia isn't evicting people with overstays.

The bad news is she isn't much into couch co-op because she doesn't like screen sharing and she even brought her own Xbox with her, so when we want to do something, she uses the Xbox on the living room (hers) and I use the one in the office (mine) to play online. It's insane that we can sync better shouting from across the flat than we can with the grainy party chat.

EDIT: I just saw someone explain the Home system, so I won't bother with that either.

What's the origin of the ABYX on controllers?

SNES I believe.

A & B and X & Y are reversed from most modern controllers though like Xbox, Stadia, and Steam; only Switch has the reversed layout (Playstation has symbols instead of letters, but the layout is the same, bottom middle button is confirm, right side button is back, etc.). The reversed layout makes switching between Xbox/Playstation and Nintendo systems very annoying for me for the first hour or so. I really hope that Nintendo adopts the industry standard layout on Switch 2.

Nintendo actually dropped ABXY after SNES, in favor of AB and 4 different yellow C buttons on N64. Then Gamecube brought back ABXY, but with a different layout. Then Nintendo brought back their classic ABXY layout with DS, and they kept it for Wii classic controller, Wii U, 3DS, and Switch.

Sega actually created the industry standard version of ABXY with Dreamcast, it was the first of many console to adopt that layout. OG Xbox copied the Dreamcast layout as it was originally intended to be a replacement for Dreamcast, and the rest as they say is history. The popularity of 360's controller design on both Xbox and PC caused ABXY to become the industry standard.

Interesting but why is it XY and not YZ?

They never will as Nintendo just forces the Japanese layout standard to the whole world. In Japan the right button is "Accept" and the bottom button is "Decline". Even PS4 there uses Circle as "Accept" and cross as "Decline". The difference is that Sony adapts their layout for Western audiences but Nintendo does it the other way and tells everyone just to accept it as it is and deal with it.

You don't know how long it took me and my friends to realize that when I played MGS2 back in the days....

Yeah. Old MGS games weren't adapted for Western layout for some reason as well, even in US and EU versions and used Circle as "Accept"
