Yea, at this point, literally anybody could claim to know something about more big deals being in the pipeline. We're all seeing what the market is like. "Smaller" entities are eager to get in on the payday. Larger entities are looking to strengthen their IP vault, and output capabilities for the content war ahead. Doesn't take any sources to realize that industry consolidation is going to continue.

Think it's about time for Embracer and Tencent to make another acquisition though, Lol.

Embracer's acquisitions keep getting larger and larger.

Ubisoft is next.

Sony 100% overpaid for Bungie, but it’s possible that they did it because they didn’t want anybody to counter their offer.

When you look at the available publishers they could buy SEGA, Capcom and Square Enix who are all valued below 10 billion, obviously it will take more than that for it to happen.

I can see Sony buying more independent studios like Lucid Games, Camouflage (Iron Man VR devs who are likely already working on a PSVR2 exclusive based on job listings), Ember Labs, Haven, and Deviation. A wild card that I would throw out there is Crytek since they would fit Sony’s new Games as Service strategy really well.

You're looking at this the wrong way, especially with your earlier comment about CoD as a comparison.

Sure, perhaps Bungie aren't worth this much. But Bungie aren't being bought for gaming content alone. They're being bought so that they can be integrated into the live service games currently being developed by SIE themselves. And that's exactly where their value to Sony lies.

The next item to consider is how their IP can be incorporated into other media, such as TV. And it's not just Destiny: Bungie are rumoured to be working on a new fantasy IP.

Of course there are other reasons that can be considered too.

Bungie is not a bad purchase by Sony. They will get their money back eventually but as with Insomniac, Playstation won't gain even one new customer with these investments.
This has zero impact on the players.

They'll gain by means of their other live service games being bettered designed for player engagement. Picking up new players from these endeavours means that they do indeed gain new customers because of this.

Live services don't really attract new players, it's a way too keep existing players engaged.

If you want to make more money off existing players it makes sense, for acquiring new players it doesn't.

Nobody that doesn't already own a Playstation console will say: "oh they're going to include a proper live service for the multiplayer of [insert existing Sony IP], because of that I'm definitely getting a Playstation."

Besides, Sony will now cripple themselves by putting live services in their MP shooters like Killzone. This will only decrease the player count of Destiny.

What private companies are left? Large ones?

Struggling to think of anything except Crytek, Lol.

Crytek, IOI, Techland, Behavior Interactive.

I can actually see Sony buying Behavior because they own Dead by Daylight but that would be another billion  dollar acquisition plus another successful live service game.

No I fully understand why they did it, but to me it says a lot that MS didn’t think it was worth it when they could have gotten them for cheaper last year. To me Personally this purchase does nothing for me and I understand that it helps Sony in their new strategy for Live Service games and having recurring revenue but it’s not a move that will make me want to invest in PlayStation or Bungie games when there are a ton of competitors out there that are trying to take my time from me.

It’s going to be a huge project

As long as Microsoft and Sony are the ones doing the acquisitions I'm cool with it.

Translation: There's actually a good chance we may not be able to deliver on co-op and/or forge when we said we would, so I'm gonna need an extra minute to figure out how to best massage that message.

Nah, Halo fans are cry-babies, I believe Joe when he says he wants to give us something we can rely on and that's not to say that certain stuff may be delayed but it's better to get the roadmap accurate rather than a bunch of maybes or dates that don't end up hitting which causes a mental breakdown at r/Halo again.

I believe him too when he says he wants to give us something we can rely on, which is why the hesitancy to do so in the earlier designated window very likely means that 343 isn't currently confident in what they actually will and will not be able to produce this year.

Just give us Forge already even if it's not completed yet. I'm sure we won't die from a Forge version still in development.
