Many senior people leaving The Coalition before and after release of this mess of a Gears game. Ryan expressed his disappointment in Gears 5 launch numerous times these past months. Also he made some awful design decisions himself.

But it's obvious there's lack of communication and direction within the studio. Let's see what all of this means for Gears of War. I think they should do something else for a while.

I Dont Play Multiplayer, but the single player Mode of Gears was very good.

Operation 3 definitely made some improvements to the tour of duty and quicker character unlocks. The new game mode, gridiron is really fun too.

I thought Gears 5 was a step in the right direction after Gears 4. The story was far more interesting and I enjoyed the open-world sections despite the lack of things to do in them. Riding around the skiff (spelling?) was a lot of fun for me.

It was, for the campaign. The multiplayer was widely criticized for buggy hitscan, lack of day 1 characters, and an overpriced micro transaction store. The guy leaving being the multiplayer director....can’t say I’ll miss him. He did the multiplayer aspect a lot of damage

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

@Ryuu96 suggested I post this here. My review for Ori and the Will of the Wisps: https://www.vgchartz.com/article/442736/ori-and-the-will-of-the-wisps-xone/.

I'd be surprised to play a better game this year.

Phil basically said no title will hold back Series X launch, aka if Halo Infinite gets delayed, Series X will still go ahead as scheduled.

Brute Force and Scalebound are dead.

If Phil could bring back a title it would be Mech.

Thinks Xbox One had too many launch exclusives, talks down needing that many at launch and would rather want to have a few major titles and spread the others out.

Glad I didn't watch, sounds disappointing. I am glad that Series X won't be delayed by games, and I agree with him that XB1 having 7 launch exclusives was too many, 3 of the 7 didn't sell well as I recall (Crimson Dragon, Fighter Within, and Powerstar Golf) because everybody chose to play the 4 bigger exclusives instead, DR3, FM5, Ryse, and KI. Better to only release XSX with 3 or 4 AA/AAA 1st/2nd party launch games like Halo Infinite, Forza Motorsport 8, and something from a 2nd party studio.

Out of all the great dormant IP's he could pick to revive though, he says Mech. Bad choice imo, Fable, Perfect Dark, Conker; so many better choices.

He mentioned nothing about Japan plans for XSX? Come on Phil, you need to either moneyhat some JP exclusives or acquire some JP 1st party studios, or else XSX is totally dead on arrival in Japan, and we'll see a repeat of the XB1 JP 3rd party situation in the west as a result.

He specifically said he didn't wanna mention anything in the realms of what might be considered teasing a project that they're actually working on, so that's why he didn't answer with something like Fable, PD, etc...

Mech is just something that is unlikely to happen due to the rights, but he's a fan.

In terms of Japan, Ryan didn't really ask him any questions about it. Closest he got was asking about Scalebound. Other than that, he asked if MS would consider a staggered launch for Series X, like they had for Xbox One, if the virus situation slows down production more than currently anticipated, and Phil talked for a bit how he wasn't a fan of that, and how he felt it really put them on the back foot over there in Japan in particular.

Thanks Vek.

Its reviews like this that have inspired me to start the first game. Loving it so far.

starcraft - Playing Games = FUN, Talking about Games = SERIOUS

Lengthy read but a good exploration of the multi-faceted approach Microsoft is taking to gaming atm.

Can you provide a full summary? Preferably with dot points please?

One super big, super high quality title that showcases the platform is certainly more important than lots of exclusives.

Halo can do it, so can Fable and Gears.

Breath of the Wild put the Switch on the map for example...

Hopefully that does mean that we have Fable and Perfect Dark reboots incoming at the very least.

I will sleep with everyone on this forum if we get a Perfect Dark reboot. My body is ready.
