Forums - Gaming Discussion - Shenmue III - 70 on Metacritic

This scenario is what scares me most about Metroid Prime 4. I really hope they understand that games have progressed exponentially since the trilogy's release and just providing more of the same isn't going to cut it. Games that end up in developent hell or have become oft pined for sequels end up in this category more often than not.

It's at 70% now. Barely eked itself out of "shit" territory and moved on up to "hot garbage".

As much as I'm not a fan, I can only assume you're being sarcastic. I've held back in making similar posts in these MC threads over the years.

- "If you have the heart of a true winner, you can always get more pissed off than some other asshole."

it's at 71 at this moment.

I've only played the first 10mins of it and I'm please with it so far, I have to finish up Death Stranding first before I go all in in Shenmue 3.

CPU: Ryzen 7950X
GPU: MSI 4090 SUPRIM X 24G
Motherboard: MSI MEG X670E GODLIKE
RAM: CORSAIR DOMINATOR PLATINUM 32GB DDR5
SSD: Kingston FURY Renegade 4TB
Gaming Console: PLAYSTATION 5

Its 71 on metacritic. Almost as good as Days Gone

I updated the thread title, since OP hasn't been doing so.

I'm all for pleasing the main fanbase but that has to be a very small demographic.
You have to
A.) Play the original on Dreamcast
B.) Be one of those who actually enjoyed it
C.) Followed up your Dreamcast purchase with an Xbox or import the sequel
D.) Not die in the past 20 years
E.) Be one of those who tried the rerelease and enjoyed it.

I personally doubt the game gets 500,000 in sales. From what I've heard, it's already getting a price cut.

A1.) Play the original on Dreamcast

A2.) Play the original two games emulated (probably the most played games on DreamCast emulators)

A3.) Play the 2018 remaster (Shenmue I & II HD) on PC (was included in a Humble Monthly Bundle)

A4.) Play the 2018 remaster (Shenmue I & II HD) on PS4 (probably on PS+ within the next 3 months)

A5.) Play the 2018 remaster (Shenmue I & II HD) on XBO (free on GamePass!)

B.) Be one of those who actually enjoyed it

Thanks to emulators, PC bundles, GamePass and probably soon PS+ the fan base should have grown a lot in the last years.

Polygon put it best:

"It’s not the lack of elegant dialogue or the glitches that make this game so disappointing, but the idea that a series that was so obsessed with what would be possible from gaming in the future has turned into a way for people to attempt to revisit the past."

Basically, gamers ended up kick starting a nostalgia trip. 2015 reactions are cringe-worthy now that 2 out of the 3 games that created much buzz failed to live up to the hype.

How do you think FF7 will be critically received? Will SE deliver 5 years after unveiling FF7R?

Last I checked Last Guardian is a great game. Better than the generic crap that gets rehashed all the time like CoD or Mario Kart.

This game needs to be a good fanservice, that is all.
People expecting it to be a technical and graphical marvel haven't been paying attention, you can't build a house with only a few stones.

I dunno what the reviewers were playing, but the game is frigging beautiful (granted not the best graphics), the quests are fun and they won't open up unless you establish relationships. There is variety and the world created is magical. Yes the animations are dated, but it doesn't stop you from enjoying the journey and I don't even notice it anymore as you get pulled into the world that's been created. The only other game where you have npcs that have schedule's and go about their daily lives is yakuza.

The issue with the reviews is they are marking the game for everything which it is not instead of everything that it is.

It's not dated. There are things in this game that still do not exist in any game I know of today outside of yakuza. The side quests are organic and relationship based. Even the witcher series don't have this.

The density and detail of the world and how it lives and breathes is out of this world.

It is a slow burn, but that is part of the magic and majesty of the game where you actually have to investigate and find answers and create relationships.

In a world where people want immediate gratification, this game teaches you to pause and take in the world around you and the things you miss out as you are constantly forced and rushed from task to task.

A class example of this is the uncharted games.take the shambala location where you want to take in the world that's been created that just oozes beauty, but you can't since there is nothing to explore or do but to kill and move from location to location killing.

15hrs in and I'm happy with my purchase and would even say its my contender for the game of the year.

A3, A4, and A5 are covered in "E" of the original post. But we'll see if the game does well. I hope it does.
