Suuuuure, you will get an 2TB M2 ssd in an already expensive console...

(Some people are beyond delusional)

Currently for a single 2tb ssd first search result is near 200 euro if not over, but if you'd order 30 million of those

This is one thing many people don't think about with Sony, they are Sony, they have relationships and deals with the technology industry because they are technology, they need chips from there, displays from else where and hard drives for their stuff. It's more of a thing that SSD makers want to get their drives in the PS5 as well as it's a guaranteed contract while Sony wants to get their drive as cheap as possible. They are buying 30 million, and they are at cost.

Hmm, pie.

I would always choose a device that offers new content/experiences over something that offers the same experiences I already have.

New console over a new TV.

VR over a Mid Gen Upgrade.

Upgrading is something best done with excess, expanding is growth, and growth is what life is all about.

Except if a large part of that new console is 4k + HDR, none of which my current TV supports....  that would be like having a sports car with no gas.

Nah, a game built for Gamepad and Flat Screens, is the same whether it is on a 120" 8K HDR Display or a 6" 1080p phone. At the end of the day, a great experience is a great experience. Bigger, Brighter, Higher Resolution Screens are a luxury.

The main focus of next gen, from an experience level, will be, faster load times, smoother frame rates, and enhanced immersion through advance controls and gameplay. The massive upgrade in CPU power will also mean a giant leap in AI and Physics, which will bring the best games to life like never before.

Nothing that won't be just as enjoyable on a 1080p display, as an 8K display.

Stop hate, let others live the life they were given. Everyone has their problems, and no one should have to feel ashamed for the way they were born. Be proud of who you are, encourage others to be proud of themselves. Learn, research, absorb everything around you. Nothing is meaningless, a purpose is placed on everything no matter how you perceive it. Discover how to love, and share that love with everything that you encounter. Help make existence a beautiful thing.

Some of these controller improvements are interesting as well as more flexibility in terms of downloading.

For a superfast ssd? Keep dreaming. Even if Sony paid only $100 for a superfast 2TByte ssd, it is way over budget for the "simple storage" part of the manufacturing bill.

Pretty much every anticipated feature point on that poll is available on other platforms...

According to the Wired article "it will ditch the spinning hard drive". So it might not be a cache after all.

Will be interesting to see how that works in conjunction with external mechanical drives if that's truly the case.

Besides SSD and Ray tracing the rest is almost irrelevant, just adopting to current standard. The thing I'll be most excited is game.

Pretty much. The games are what is going to be truly interesting.

The controller features sound very interesting, but potentially also a potential point for breaking / battery drain. I want to check them out.

Shouldn't affect reliability to much.
Sony has always made pretty solid controllers anyway...

I don't think the newer CPUs will make as much of a difference as some people believe. Remember we once moved from simple 1990s RISC CPUs to the 3.2 GHz, multithreaded CBE design in the X360 and PS3, and yet graphics and RAM proved to be the most important factors in the following years.

They make a massive difference.
The 7th gen CPU's ended up wasting CPU cycles on things like Morphological Anti-Aliasing, texture decompression and so on, so the CPU's didn't get the chance to well... Do CPU stuffs.
Plus those IBM PowerPC chips weren't exactly great performers to start with anyway, they were cost-sensitive chips, plus they only became relatively "acceptable" once you loaded up the thread counts, which not many early games did... Those simpler in-order core designs just didn't do them any favors.

Nice extras would be options to change effects in game. So if you fancy more texture detail at the expense of say, ray tracing you can turn on and off different options. There should also be option to switch off 'shimmering' anti-aliasing.

Most important is smooth 60fps gameplay, sick and tired of those sub 30fps games.

That won't change, for a lot of games they preffer better graphics than 60fps.

It will be up to the studio. There are studios that prefer 60 FPS over top-notch graphics for their games. Others like ND and other 1st party Sony studios will prefer to focus on visuals over frame-rates.

No point. The Ray Tracing hardware will be dedicated cores separate from the texturing hardware.

The "Shimmering" is a by-product of developers choosing an inferior, albeit cheaper implementation of Anti-Aliasing, only so much you can do with fixed hardware and developers often make cutbacks to the AA and Resolution in order to bolster visuals elsewhere.
