Forums - Sony Discussion - Rumor: Secret Email Hints At Huge PS5 Reveal In Feb 2020

Just wondering what Sony fans are most excited about when it comes to this reveal:

Specs, Form Factor, Controller Design, User Interface, Tech demos, Game announcements?

Specs - Whatever they can offer for $499 msrp. I'll accept lesser potential graphical fidelity for super short loading times.

Form - Whatever is necessary for it to be universally accepted as quiet, while not looking like a big boring flat square box. OG PS3 size is the max acceptable.

Control - Assuming the light bar has to remain and be lit, make an extremely dim option if not off, otherwise I'm content with the DS4.

UI - Snappier and more options. The basic stock layout is quite good, but allowing more personalization of that wouldn't hurt. It's almost too clean and could use a little clutter. I'd really like it if they used more screen space. When looking through who's online even in custom lists, less scrolling would be nice and they have some space to do that.

Demos - Running Crysis flawlessly at 4k/60 with some ray tracing.

Games - At least 1 new SIE IP and enough SIE titles to guarantee 2 or more AAA games each year for the first couple of years.

PS5 should be released this year, it's not fair that pc-gamers get new components earlier then console players. I want PS5 now not in 1+ year, Zen2 and Navi is ready even if Sony had to release at $600 this year I think it's worth it, they can reduce the price next year to $500

We had this leak recently, someone found this in an exploit in amd drivers (I think)

The clock speed is an exact match for PS4 and PS4 pro with PS5 with 2ghz. 36CU clocked at 2ghz gives 9,2TF, now I'm sceptical of this I think we all should expect 36CU clocked between 1,5-1,6ghz for both next-gen consoles. For the rest of the specs I'm expecting a 8-core zen2 with clocked at 3,2 ghz, 16GB Vram 448-512 GB/s memory speed, 4-6GB ddr4 for OS and cache for the SSD and 1TB SSD.

Form factor will be a big box with a big FAN (no vapor cooler!), I want no changes to the controller, maybe they can improve the sticks and do buttons under the controller so we can Jump and aim at same time, User interface exactly the same, no changes and I hope Sony is smart and do only PS5 exclusive games not cross-gen like microsoft.

Good Can't wait to see what Sony is preparing. They are in for the longrun and I have a feeling they will want to hit it out of the park.

I'd rather they wait another year (or two!). I'm not even done with my PS3 yet, I don't have time for a PS5 as well!

If they delayed PS5, that'd just mean you'd get another year or two more games on PS4, meaning that in 2022 you still wouldn't be ready lol.

Pretty much agree with all of this. 1.5ghz GPU clock, 2ghz seems ridiculous. 2.8-3.2ghz CPU clock it'll have 8 cores / 16 threads but I expect performance will be closer to the 6 core / 12 thread Ryzen 5 processors. I'm not sure an SSD will be used for main storage though, the Scarlett video mentioned using an SSD like virtual ram, and I think PS5 will also take this route. SSD is still expensive, and if it is the main storage option it would make upgrading for consumers to store more games expensive also, as I doubt they'd support HDD at all if it comes bundled with an SSD. They also mentioned a custom interface for the SSD in PS5, which might mean SSD's on the market won't be compatible, which again makes me think this is going to be a non-expandable internal cache.

Here's a patent that I think may be relevant from June. https://uk.ign.com/articles/2019/06/24/sonys-patented-another-way-to-reduce-loading-times

"The patent, titled 'System and method for dynamically loading game software for smooth game play', describes a technology that loads in data in advance in order to prevent load screens.

The patent explains that the system can monitor the player’s character, and use this information to load in new areas in preparation as the player approaches them."

I think the PS5 will have a small ssd, 32gb-120gb, and a HDD for main storage. During gameplay in places where the HDD would normally be mostly idle, the game will load data from the HDD onto the SSD in preparation, based on what it thinks it's going to need to load next, I.E the next level or the closest area. Then when the time comes this data is already on the SSD ready to be loaded into memory at a much faster rate. Data will also be cached onto the SSD while you are installing a game, so when you first boot the game to the main menu/ first level it still loads fast. Eventually games that you haven't played in a long time will have their data removed from the SSD to make room.

Though SSD prices are coming down, I already think $500 is pushing it for the specs.

I don't mind having another year's worth of PS4 games to play through, I'd just like to get my PS3 backlog cleared before the PS5 comes along

Does this mean you bought your PS3 at launch and playing since and you re planning to buy a PS5 at release?

Hunting Season is done...

Hopefully this is true because I really love the psvr but the display and cords kinda kill the immersion for me. Hopefully psvr2 will have an improved display at least.

Nah, got my PS3 in 2011. Started the gen with a 360 instead.

Not sure about PS5 at release yet. I'd like to, as I did for the PS4, but if I'm not gonna have time to play it much straight away then I'll probably wait.

Very bad decision on the 2011 PS3 purchase =p /jk

At least the last 2 gen for people that like 3rd party games Xbox was the best option on the first 2 years of the gen, then switching to playstation for when the heavy hitters start showing up.

Sounds great, can't wait for the first reveal...wonder how Sony plans to release the remaining big AAA games
