Forums - Sales Discussion - Japan Sales Week 27, Jul 01 - 07 2019, Famitsu

Another week with a new PS4 release another spike for the Switch.

Does anyone have a FF14 comparison? I think Shadowbringers sold better than Stormblood, but I'm going off of a finicky memory.

And snuggle the girls be they short or tall,
Then follow young Mat whenever he calls,
To dance with Jak o' the Shadows."

I don't think it'll affect sales that much as both consoles are catering two different demographics: the ones who play in TV and the ones who don't. It'll be ala DS. Hope this new version sales implode as the first DS did

We have to consider that in Japan standard Switch is also sold without dock

Only from the Nintendo website so it's a really niche thing that the majority of people dont know about.

This is smaller, cheaper, has longer battery life and is sold nationwide at retail so they really arent comparable situations.

Outside of the PS4, which is understandable, it has been a good week.Great to see the Switch doing well.

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

Didn't know that, thanks for the clarification... You're right, they aren't comparable situations

No problem I think we are going to see some crazy sales in the coming months. Switch Lite in Sept, Pokemon in Nov, Animal Crossing in March......

The entire deficit of the past two months has been offset by the two most recent weeks. Switch is now up 348k units YTD, the highest this value has been this year.

While the upcoming comparisons are all manageable with the recent rebound in sales, today's announcement of the Switch Lite should be expected to make a good percentage of prospective Switch owners hold out until September 20th. But even if weekly sales should fall behind last year's again, the imminent launch of the Lite will make up for it with ease anyway.

At this point 4m+ in 2019 is a safe bet.

Hmmm, I think that quite a lot of Japanese people that will be buying NS lite, wouldn't acquire an OG NS otherwise...

Switch nearly 7:1 over PS4.

Also nice to see a third party title like AOT sell better on Switch than PS4.

I think they may have announced the Lite much too early though, as Japan sales will likely now crater for the next almost 2 and a half months. They should've announced it like a month out.

That's the concern I have as well. Although I don't think it'll mean much in the grand scheme of things, because once the Switch Lite comes out on Sept. 20th (Same day as Link's Awakening), Dragon Quest XI S will come out one week later, and then it's full steam ahead towards the holiday season with Luigi's Mansion 3 and Pokemon Sword/Shield after that. So whatever sales they lose in the upcoming 11-12 weeks from people who are now gonna wait, should be more than made up afterwards.

Probably true, it's just after many months of lukewarm sales I was looking forward to seeing Switch smash the charts for months on end, and now it seems the wait has been extended by two months haha
