This makes me happy, because I've been enjoying the hell out of Days Gone so far. Aside from Bethesda level bugs, the game has been great.

This is an old tweet, I thought the new NPD report was out, but good for Bend studio.

6x master league achiever in starcraft2

Beaten Sigrun on God of war mode

Beaten DOOM ultra-nightmare with NO endless ammo-rune, 2x super shotgun and no decoys on ps4 pro.

1-0 against Grubby in Wc3 frozen throne ladder!!

Gotta wonder what the sales would have been like if the reviews had turned out more favorable. Still 7th regardless, wow.

Critics were harsh against this game.... cant believei ts sitting at 71 on metacritic, imo this is a 80-85.
Game is legit underated.

supposed SJW issues and game critics didnt review this game fairly.
politics should be kept out of judgeing a game imo.

No, absolutely not. Politics did not affect the game's reviews, please don't conflate issues that are completely unrelated. The game was reviewed so because it was average. I love it as well - because average does NOT mean bad. It means that's it's a solid game, and that's it, nothing more.

The main character was boring, and the story was full of tropes we've seen hundreds of times before in a story. This has nothing to do with politics. The thing the saved this game from being bad was the solid mechanics. The zombie hordes are dopes and the motorcycle is fun to ride around and maintain.

Considering the amount of glitches i experienced and how it sorta feels like a last gen/early this gen game i think 71 was appropiate. Despite that i had fun playing it

I can't say anything about the quality of the game as I haven't played it and know very little about it, but this was Bend Studios first attempt at a really big game in a very long time. They've mostly been doing PSP and Vita level side games/spinoffs , so it's good to see them do well with their first big console level game, if people enjoyed it.
Sounds likely that Sony will give them another go at a sequel, or something. And they'll probably learn from the mistakes they made with the first one. (Heard there were some bugs initially.)

Gotta agree... it's not an easy transition to make and get right. Just look at Ready@Dawn. That team obviously had some talent, but they just couldn't bring the whole package.

You've got yo be srriously naive or in a space of blissful ignorance if you don't see that politics had a large effect on this games score. If you think the daily dots 30 is based on the games merit, you need some perspectuve dude. And also, the protagonist, Deacon is not average. He has a deep bavk story and has a unique personality, the VAer does a brilliant job at bringing unique mannerisms to his character and his history opens up in a fluid way across the game. The game is more of a day (few months) in the life type deal so the fact that they were able to flesh him out so well in this period is a feat.

This is an honest question: what type of stories do you like? What are some of your favourite movies? Maybe this story is right up your alley and you don't care that you've seen it many times before, or you just haven't and it was still fresh enough for you to enjoy.

In my opinion, Deacon's backstory and mannerisms was nothing that I have not seen done many, many, many times before; his character is a grunty, 'broken' dude who sticks by his honor. Yeah, he's solemn and a bid grungy, but also a bad-ass. Oh his wife is head, and he's more sad, and he's 'deep' because of his grieve.

This is a story that has been played out before - it's boring now. Especially the girlfriend/wife/family dying thing; I get it, it's traumatising. How many times is that going to be our character's motivation, though? It was dope when Kratos did it more than 10 years ago. But guess what? Santa Monica was smart enough to reboot the character and the new GoW gave us one of the best story experiences that has graced video games. They're smart enough to know when things become trite and overdone. Did the wife die? Yes. Was the story about the wife dying? No, it was about Kratos and his son. It was new, it was fresh, and it was really well-done.

Don't get me wrong, I like the game. It's solid. But if you know the story beats beat by beat already, it's gonna get boring.

Now, I am not naive about politics and am certainly not ignorantly bliss about politics. On the contrary, I explicitly am not naive enough to conflate things when they are not necessary to conflate, and to miss-analyse trends as a result. Some reviewers complained that Deacon was boring, and the response from angry whoever was to blindly say these reviewers hate white men. This could be the case for a few reviewers purposely adding fuel to the fire, or it could be a legitimate complain that the character is, indeed, boring. I'm not about to hop on a bandwagon and scape-goat.

That's what happens when you don't release the review embargo till like the day before release.

- snip -

Outlets specifically targeted the "white male protagonist" becore release, many of them reviewed the game. One particular reviewer was caught out on twitter for political bias but keep your head in the sand.

I enjoy anything, and I do mean anything as long as it is done well.

Please provide evidence, also including as to how many only hated it because of the character's skin colour without any constructive criticism. I'd also like to add that of course there's dumb&*$# reviewers who say statements like that for a click, but what I'm countering is the two of your implications that racism is what bogged down the game's reception. A bad apple does not make the whole batch bad, amirite? Goes for reviewers. Finally, I don't buy the political elephant in the room, which is the WASP 'victimisation' narrative that our discussion now is flirting with but not getting into (which is good, because I do not want to get into it).

Bolded: That's absolutely fine. I'm glad you like stuff like this. My problem is that I get too bored when things aren't fresh enough.
