The PS4 and Xbox one were very similar...the PS4 being more power (has for the most part delivered even most recent games at 1080p while the base Xbox One has sunk as low as 864p in titles like RDR2)...from what I have seen both next gen consoles have a similar architecture...I assume the gap will be close one way or the other...I think Collin is a Sony guy so I can't really trust anything he says...wait until digital foundry has their final say.

He is definitely a Sony guy but he never held back criticizing them, For instance he has maintained that Xbox one has done more than PS3 did in relation to gaining  back the user base after disastrous start, Always praised xbox for BC, and criticized Sony for not having it. Praised Xbox one X opposed to PS4 Pro.. So when he says PS5 is powerful he might definitely know something considering he is friends with many developer who used to work with him at IGN

not once in the 40 year old history has a console sold the best BECAUSE of power, but marketing and games

"Power" is an important piece of the marketing puzzle of any console, as are games.

Is this the same Colin who said Microsoft tried to put Halo MCC on PS4? lol

At the end of the day idc if the PS5 is more powerful, I just hope the next Xbox doesn't launch as fugly as the Xbone did. Which it won't, because the leadership there is night and day different.

After Sony's Ps3 and MS's X1, Im hoping no other company does something so insulting to the consumers. But we had to admit, even if we like theese companies, that the backlash had to happen even if neither really fully recovered, to let them know that consumers wont accept that garabage they tried to pull again.

It takes genuine talent to see greatness in yourself despite your absence of genuine talent.

Marketing has evolved though now it's more geared towards highlighting exclusives power isn't as effective as a marketing tool now days.

I expect this to be true. Sony is more willing to take a loss on HW, while I think MS is preparing for their xCloud/Gamer Pass future, so won't be quite as willing to take big losses on HW. The X kinda proved that. MS didn't want to take any loss, so priced it $100 more than the competition, even though it could have been their opportunity to mount a comeback. My guess is that next gen, they will be launching at the same price, $499, while MS will put enough into it to have a slight loss and Sony will be taking a $100 or more hit.

Of course, either way it turns out, I don't think the difference will be quite as big as the ~40% the PS4 had over the XBO. Which still equals a PS5 victory, with EU/Japan loyalty and many American gamers sticking to the PS family.

I think you're talking about advertising.  That is marketing, but marketing is much more than that.  The name, the color and shape of the system, the price, the release date - all of that is marketing.  Determining how important it is to be "more powerful" than the other guy, and what stats they'll bump to get that crown, is a marketing decision.

What a completely bizarre post.

1. XBox1 sold at $100 higher than PS4 because of the Kinect2 (which easily had a $200 product cost. Ask any electronics engineer that has seen the inside of a Kinect2). So the loss out of the gate was considerably higher for Microsoft per console sold than for Sony.

2. During the past 2-3 years, XBox1 was easily available all over Europe in the $229 to $249 range (after Kinect2 was written off, obviously). PS4 always was at least $70 to $100 more expensive, often selling at $399 for periods. And from a mass manufacturing standpoint, PS4 has been considerably cheaper to manufacture. Again, the loss has been considerably higher for Microsoft per console sold than for Sony.

3. X1X might actually be sold at a small profit at its list price of $499. Here the design changes make mass manufacturing considerably cheaper than on XBox1. (However, given the sales numbers, is the X1X really a mass product?)

To sum up, I easily estimate that, on hardware alone, every XBox1 has been sold at a loss over its entire lifespan.

He remains a Sony a guy, until digital foundry does an analysis of the hardware I won't put stock on his word or anybody else's. Plus if he said that about Xbox One in regards to the PS3 situation he is wrong. The PS3 had a horrendous start but had a stellar second half and in fact did beat out the 360 in the end. The Xbox One will be lucky if it surpasses SNES numbers it won't get near 360 or PS3 numbers. Microsoft lost a lot of ground with Xbox One.

I don't care. Whichever has the best games is the "winner" in my book. Ps4 could be 10x more powerful for all I care. That's why I generally game on Nintendo and PC (as I already have one for non-gaming purpose that can play games just fine). If I get one over the other, it will be because it has more enjoyable games to me, and that really doesn't have anything to do with graphics.

It doesn't matter, even if it's more powerful it will not so significant and will be hard to spot the difference. It will be even closer that we think (you can mark my words ) and will be even closer gap compared to PS4 to Xbox One let alone Pro and X.

It will be determine by how the optimization on both console works. As we know Microsoft will be using DirectX while Sony will be more primitive and closer to the metal codding. While indeed Scarlet can also do close to the metal coding either, but none of their games will be exclusives to their consoles and they are ditching console only games and also will be optimize for PC and Xbox One, so we will see Scarlet like console akin to Steam machine or PC gaming (using directX).

Sony in other hand will be even better , because they will utilize all their resource without directX bloated API and will focus on PS5 as standard.

Xbox Scarlet will be limited by Xbox One and low cost PC budget in designing games. while PS5 will be a true leap if it's games made exclusively for PS5 (first party or 3rd party exclusives games).
