Sure it's sad Japan is not buying home consoles like they used to, but Japanese games are still selling great  probably the best they ever have.

i can’t say whether you are right or wrong. Japan still makes great games I loved resi 2, but the amount of great games I think has diminished, Konami is gone so we lost castle ani, silent hill and metal gear, Sega doesn’t produce the amount of high quality games as before, square only makes one game like every 5 years, shmups are dead, rpgs are rare srpjgs even more so.

i know there are many indies out there but for me it’s just not the same.

Shootemups? They never worked In Japan untill Splatoon anyways.

RPGs? That's, like, over half the Japanese market. PSP, DS, 3DS, and Vita THRIVED on JRPGs and most of that output is just in a transition period to the switch. (And Persona 5 shows us that the genre is alive and well). SRPGs? Niche to beguin with, but Fire emblem, the first real SRPG exploaded in popularity 7 years ago and is just getting bigger and bigger.

Well this is reality for developers as graphics get more advanced game take longer to make, it's even true for Nintendo.

Very sad about Konami, MGSV was a remarkable game. still I find this gen offerings RE2, RE7, DMC5, MHW, Sekiro, Nioh, MGSV, and Bloodborn vastly better then last gen offerings.

Sorry but you are wrong.

shmups were very popular in Japan during the 90’s consoles like the Saturn, pc engine, sega génesis had amazing shmups, rpgs? Sure we have persona 5 and what else???, srpgs were very popular in the 90’s, tactics ogre, fft, shining force, dragon force, front mission, vandal hearts... etc, Also weird Japanese games kind of went extinct.

I agree this generation is a vast improvement for Japanese games compared to last gen,for me it’s great news because games like call of duty, far cry and Assassin creed have zero appeal for me.

Aside from personal preference, If we are talking about sales, many of those Japanese franchises have had the best sales they ever had. Dark souls 3, MHW, final fantasy, kingdom hearts, dragon quest, MGSV,  and DMC 5 will be the best selling games in each franchise. Resident evil 2 also has a chance considering it's already at 4 million.

The old games with good graphics don't have good gameplay? Or that games not made by Nintendo don't have good gameplay right? Or that good art is only when it is cartooney right?

Yes.  That's exactly what he said.  Old games with good graphics never have good gameplay.  It's an absolute rule.  Also, games not made by Nintendo can't have good gameplay.  It's another rule.  They aren't allowed with a penalty of up to 20 years in prison for any violations. And finally, we all know that art is only good when it is cartooney.  You read the rules, right?

Don't bait with silly trite like that.

Not baiting.

Looking at what he say he buys and want that is basically what he is saying. That only games worth of playing are Nintendo ones.

It's another factor for 3rd party presence on Switch.

If western 3rd parties need a door to get to Japan, it's through Switch. Japanese developers also have no choice but to invest on Switch somehow.

Japanese developers are doing great with ps4/xb1/PC just look at Capcom. It would be nice if switch got some more support, but they seem to like pushing graphics, and ps4/xb1/PC user base dwarfs the switch user base. We will also get cross gen games for a while with next gen consoles.

I know. What you say is true.

I'm just saying that now that switch has overtaken ps4 in japan, we've got another strong reason for devs to strongly consider switch when they want presence in Japan. Even though they may achieve a lot of success on PS4 in Japan, even with their mainline games, they still can't just ignore switch, at least with smaller games.

I speak for myself too, if I was a dev now wanting to put my name on japanese market, I'd want to somehow find some content to put on switch.

God bless You.

My Total Sales prediction for PS4 by the end of 2021: 110m+

When PS4 will hit 100m consoles sold: Before Christmas 2019

There were three ravens sat on a tree / They were as blacke as they might be / The one of them said to his mate, Where shall we our breakfast take?

Are you basing this off his post history? In that post all he said was gameplay over graphics.

At this point it would be silly of any Japanese dev to leave Switch out of their future software plans, it's just leaving money on the table.

It does make sense, it's just more complicated then it looks. Japanese developers will probably mainly focus on ps4/ps5/PC/xb1 they seem like they wanna push tech, and switch sadly is too weak at the moment.
