Forums - Gaming Discussion - Why are so many of us suddenly playing Minecraft again?

Tagged games:

In recent months, I've been playing the shit out of Minecraft again, and catching myself playing to very late, with what free time I've got (Over 100 hours I think since the year started). Playing on my Xbox version on a world that is 4 years old, hopping on my long time PC version for multiplayer and catching up with old friends, and using the Switch Edition during work breaks.

I've watched videos as well that are "Minecraft Tributes" and "Minecraft Nostalgia", reading all the comments, and there are thousands out there with similar stories. A lot of my friends are also occasionally playing the game and enjoying their own survival worlds. It really seems this game has made a comeback for the older players as the younger ones move like a flock of sheep to play these battle royale games.

Here is some nostalgia:

Started in October of 2010, and here I am in 2019, chasing the happiness of old times.

I can't claim to know, but the game got a pretty big update last year and another one just recently. Before that, I think there was a quieter period regarding updates.

Personally, I've returned to the game due to circumstances in life. Well, 'returned' is not a great word, because this is the first time it feels like I've been able to invest a sizeable amount of time into the game. As a result, in a way this is my first time really getting into the game despite wanting to even earlier. Anyway, for me it's just a coincidence that it occurred just when the game was getting so popular again (or at least people claiming it is).

I've owned Minecraft since pretty close to launch, yet it's never really captivated me... just start a new world, make myself a nice big house with a farm and village or something, then go digging around and shit, after a few hours I get bored and close it off... rinse and repeat maybe once or twice a year, I guess hoping each time that it'll be better than the last time I played it, that "this" will be the time I get hooked, except at times where I've played with other people and maybe managed to go 15-20 hours before getting bored again. I don't know, maybe it's just me but I really do find Minecraft boring, lol

I typically keep myself occupied by setting ambitious goes to achieve in my world. ON the Xbox version I've gone as far as building a railway from the middle to the edge in a straight line (I am currently stopped at 1000 blocks), and building many wonders along it.

I get a kick out of building cool stuff that is functional.

1.14 nuff said, they also have a better update shedule (2 a year normally). Play the game on a server and it is amazing. It is probably my favourite game ever. Their aren't that many play games I still play after ten years...if any...

I can't return to Minecraft. I first played it when it was in testing still, not released to the public, and off of someone's flashdrive haha. I love the system of Minecraft, but I want that same gameplay in a visually stunning engine and with modern gameplay mechanics.

I totally forgot about them doing that huge boost. Is that live for all versions? I only currently own a Wii U copy of the game and haven't touched it in a while.

No this one is a mod, also you need a beefy PC a real beefy one if you want to get 60FPS.  The 4k update is still in development but most in the community seem to not to care because this ray tracing mod is so much better.   the DF video:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5jD0mELZPD8

edit: with the latest 1.14 update they added a texture update.  Some textures like glass look so much better.
