I don't think Trump qualifies: it says "knowingly" as in the issuer knows what they're saying is false or counterfeit. Trump sounds very sincere in his efforts to anticipate where the hurricane was heading, it does not sound purposefully deceptive. I don't think it's against the law to speculate on where a hurricane might head based on what is currently known.

So he's just an idiot then.  Got it.

No, I think he's sincerely trying to anticipate where a hurricane is going to go. Perfectly appropriate course of action.

This whole thing has been so hilarious. He used a sharpie to do it, a fucking sharpie. Like anyone would be stupid enough to think it wasn't doctored. And while Trump did not at first knowingly issue a false warning about Alabama, when he was told he was wrong, he would have had to stop and admit he was wrong. He is an idiot for randomly pulling Alabama out of his ass, but he's an even bigger idiot for not just giving up here. The fact that he doctored an official image with sharpie and presented it as official means that he most certainly DID knowingly issue a counterfeit forecast. If he simply didn't know where it was going and thought it might head to Alabama, he wouldn't have had to alter the map with sharpie. He knew the map didn't show that, and added it. Hence he issued a counterfeit map because he can't handle his ego being stepped on, and in doing so broke federal law.

And now people are bending over backwards trying to defend it and it's just fucking hysterical.

You don't make such predictions when you are not qualified to make such predictions.  That's dangerous.

Perfectly appropriate course of action is to let the experts tell us where the storm is expected to go.  Not start the beginnings of "potential damage and costs of engaging emergency operations at the city, county and state government level? Resource allocation that may get planned such as food, water, repairmen, services, etc...that could be better allocated to the correct states? The costs of businesses preparing to shut down expensive infrastructure and computer hardware or diverting communications to cold site or disaster recovery facilities? The costs of eople buying provisions and emergency rations when they are already economically struggling as so many in Alabama already are? The lost work hours for those that may have called out of work to prepare? And on and on and on."

Well it didn't sound like Trump was alone on predicting the hurricane's possible trajectory: "This is the original path that we thought. And everybody thought that this was about a 95% probability and it turned out to be not that bad. It turned out to be a path going up the coast."

He may or may not have had seasoned professionals providing input.

The other appropriate action to take is to admit when you were wrong, especially AFTER the NWS already had to correct you. And it's especially not appropriate to triple down on the ignorance by using a sharpie to modify a weather map in a poor attempt to cover your ass.

"using a sharpie to modify a weather map in a poor attempt to cover your ass."

But Trump made no such attempt when showing said map. Made no mention of the sharpie marking.

Trump used the sharpie?

Trump used the sharpie?

Don't hurt your back man...that looks painful...

Step 5: Warn the wrong people.

Step 6: Take a sharpie to the official map in a feeble attempt to make it look like you weren't wrong.

95% probability?  Do you realize how much BS that is? No forecast ever said Alabama.  And few early long term trajectory models included an Alabama path at all...much less 95% of them.  And even by the time he made these statements, it had long been known that Alabama was completely in the clear.

So, he made this shit up because no professional in the meteorological industry would make such claims.

And you should know by now that Trump uses group verbiage when talking about stuff all the time even when it means just him.  You do recognize this, don't you?

"No forecast ever said Alabama."

>Looks like President Trump has provided additional information.

Some interesting images to look at, one of them below. Looks like there was a chance the hurricane affect Alabama assuming I'm reading this right...

So he can't read a wind speed map for shit either.

First. That tropical storm force winds.  Not hurricane.  It's not a trajectory or path map.

Second.  That wind speed map was 2 days old when he made his statements.  You don;t use 2 day old data on a damn hurricane forecast.

Finally, he said 95% chance.  This shows at best a 20-30% chance of TROPICAL STORM winds.  Not hurricane.

Do you really want to keep digging this hole for Trump?

"That wind speed map was 2 days old when he made his statements.  You don;t use 2 day old data on a damn hurricane forecast."

>What statements in particular? I'm not sure weather findings get to Trump instantaneously. There might be some delay between reports being put together and them reaching the president.

"Finally, he said 95% chance.  This shows at best a 20-30% chance of TROPICAL STORM winds.  Not hurricane."

>When Trump used the 95% figure, sounds like he was referring to the hurricane heading a certain path, not wind speed probability.

Unless you're referring to another instance Trump used a 95% figure.

Trumps actions regarding the hurricane is pretty laughable. Lucky federal and state  agencies are doing what they can to help those affected.

No intelligent, logical, or rational person would be defending 45's actions, rhetoric, etc. especially in this hurricane incident. It's really more telling of the people defending him than it is for the 45th because we've always known he's been working with two brain cells since before he took office.

Businessman, President, and Weatherman. What can't this guy do? Admit mistakes, etc? Seems like he's not the only one...
