Pretty much how I feel. I don't like VR so hopefully this doesn't perform super well and they don't invest any more in it.

I'm sure someone has told you this before, but this is kind of a terrible attitude to have.

Hoping that something fails, just because you don't like something, well, it's not great.

What's terrible about not wanting your company of choice to invest heavily into something that offers no value to you? It's only natural for a consumer to want companies to make things that they want and care about.

I don't have a problem with LABO VR as its a relatively harmless side gig that itself consumes little resources. Heck, I don't even want it to fail per se, I just wouldn't want it to become a breakout success and for Nintendo to get the idea of making their next system the Virtual Boy 2 or something.

What a horrible way to do VR. It's like Virtual Boy 2.0. Is Nintendo really that dumb that they can't throw a decent strap in with it?

I'm sure this is exactly what kids want to do. Have to hold up a cardboard box to their heads, while staring at a low res screen inches from their face. Yep, no eye strain going on there. /s

It's selfish to only want companies to make exactly what you want and nothing else.

I don't fault companies for making things that I personally dislike, if it doesn't stop them from making things I do like.

I don't wish regular games to fail, just because I think VR is amazing.

Everyone is "selfish" in the sense that we naturally place our own desires first. I have no issue with Nintendo making games that aren't for me like Pokemon, Animal Crossing, or indeed LABO. I've already said I'm fine with LABO VR and don't wish for it to flop.

I simply don't wish for them to sink considerable resources into a lame gimmick like VR at the expense of their regular output. In that sense I'm glad Nintendo has chosen to pursue it as a small-scale side project and hope it finds moderate but not breakout success.

They should have used strong lightweight thin plastic instead of cardboard, then told everybody that it is built from reconstituted plastic thrown into the sea and is
* environmentally safe * they would sell billions.

* environmentally safe*. refers to the interior of an nuclear bomb shelter made out of plastic labo being environmentally safe in comparison to the outside  post nuclear landscape'
now that's tougher than wet cardboard.       truly the cockroach of plasticy things.

Research shows Video games  help make you smarter, so why am I an idiot

I'd gladly buy a third party, already built, plastic version.

1.). VR is not a gimmick.  When done right, it is far away the most incredible experience in gaming.

2.) VR development doesn't have to take away from their regular output.  There are plenty of VR optional experiences on all the other headsets.

3.) Even if it was a breakout success, it doesn't make sense for Nintendo to do much VR.  The Switch is probably fine for these types of experiences. But for more serious experiences, it won't work. The Switch is too heavy to strap to your face. It has too low resolution and too low a refresh rate. Going all in on VR would at minimum require Nintendo to release a different set of hardware.  They certainly could, but they aren't going to drop game development on the Switch for something as risky right now as VR.

VR optional experiences is the only thing that makes any remote sense.

1. It's a matter of opinion ultimately. To me it's just a gimmick, and not an appealing or interesting one.

2. Hence why I have no problem with LABO VR. I just wouldn't want it to get to the point where Nintendo's major studios would be put onto VR games instead of making regular games.

3. Again, hence why I'm okay with it in this form, it's just that in the unlikely theoretical event of this becoming a smash hit I don't trust Nintendo not to do something pants-on-head retarded like make their next system the Virtual Boy 2. They always seem to be on the lookout for a new gimmick to base their next platform around, and not always for the best. (See Wii U/3DS)

At any rate, I doubt this will explode the sales charts so I see no reason to be overly concerned at this point. Like previous LABO kits it will most likely be a harmless side project that brings in a few easy dollars for Ninty and nothing more.

Btw you guys know what this means, right?

The Variety Kit let you play Mario Kart 8 Deluxe with the Motorbike handlebars.

The Vehicle Kit let you you play it with the steering wheel.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe in VR most likely incoming.

EDIT: Actually, on second thoughts, not sure how that would work without a head strap.

EDIT 2: On third thoughts, if the Joycons can be attached to the Switch while in the visor like in the OP, MK8 VR should be playable that way, so maybe we will see it after all.

Honestly, if they do Mario Kart "VR", I'll pick this up.

Variety Kit was interesting to put together, but just didn't have the staying power, so I'll need something like that to be interested in another one.

I still laugh at people who hope the Labo idea fails though. Largely because it's too late for that. The variety kit shipped over a million by itself, and with the other three kits, the overall concept will likely cross 2 million pretty handily.

Nothing appealing about getting put into an experience?

My point is, there doesn't have to be an "instead".

Nintendo could make every single game support VR and flat screens.

I just don't find having a screen strapped to my face immersive, personally.

I know there doesn't have to be be an "instead of" but Nintendo is notorious for doing the "no you can't have options, you'll damn well play it the way we say you'll play it" thing.

Have you actually tried a VR headset?

An actual decent one?

They gave tons of gameplay options on Mario Kart and Super Smash Bros.

Tried a PC one, not sure of the brand. Like i said, I'm not a fan of having a screen strapped to my face, doesn't matter how "decent" the model is considered by those who are into such things, just like I'm not into getting hit my a car regardless of whether it's a Ford or a Toyota.

And in many other cases like Starfox Zero, Pokemon Let's Go, and even Mario Odyssey, they denied players options for no good reason.
