My question to you guys: What kind of games will Gen 8 have in addition to Sword and Shield? Here's what we currently have:

Gen 1: Primary, Upgrade
Gen 2: Primary, Upgrade
Gen 3: Primary, Remake, Upgrade
Gen 4: Primary, Upgrade, Remake
Gen 5: Primary, Sequel
Gen 6: Primary, Remake
Gen 7: Primary, Upgrade, Remake

And if you're feeling really bold, you can predict how much these hypothetical Gen 8 games will sell.

So Lets Go will probably end up outselling FireRed/LeafGreen, and HeartGold/SoulSilver.

Brrrr, I just felt my skin crawl reading that...

You know it deserves the GOTY.

Come join The 2018 Obscure Game Monthly Review Thread.

It would be some feat if Pokemon Sword and Shield breaks 20 Million. Even 17-18 Million would show some definite growth in the franchise (single sku wise).

Amazing.

Which is pretty awesome. It probably will.

Gen 4 remake

So Gen 6's sales are probably the most impressive overall after Gen 1 considering there were only 2 pairs of games. Considering 3DS was nowhere near the sales monster of the DS or even the Gameboy/GBA at the time of their release, and it was pre PoGo bringing Pokemon back to the front of pop culture, I find it very interesting Gen 6 sold so well. My guess would be it must be because Gen 6 was the biggest jump for the franchise maybe ever in terms of graphics and animations. Mega evos ended up going over surprisingly well too for something that seemed like just a gimmick at first. I'd say certainly much more successful than Gen 7's Alola forms or Ultra Beasts.

Gen 6 and 7 doing so well are really sad lol Gen 5 deserved that success but the DS was hacked and most games were underperforming towards the end cause people were playing illegally.

I can totally see gen 8 breaking into 20 millions.

I understand expanded releases but why are remakes added into generations?

When the herd loses its way, the shepard must kill the bull that leads them astray.

Because the remakes run on the same engines as the primary games from each generation. It's a gameplay distinction, since each generation changes up aspects of the battle system. FireRed/LeafGreen are much more similar to Ruby/Sapphire in how they play than they are to Red/Blue/Green.
