Brainwashed.Trained to expect something less than excellent. Its all the same thing.

Im not trying to say you are necessarily wrong. You are being realistic, even if I hate to admit it.But gaming for me is a hobby that is no longer held back by money(for the most part, anyway). The biggest hurdle for me is time. And Im not going to spend my limited free time on a game that is simply not trying its best, even if its "unrealistic" to expect more. The real issue I have with people here is that Im being called toxic or something along those lines, because I have a "higher standard".

And XC 2 was developed in 3 years, or 3 and a half years, cant quite remember. With a team of 70 or 80 developers. And yet, it felt ambitious.A bit unrefined in a few areas, but ambitious.Gamefreak had a bigger team on this, dealing with a franchise that sells 15 million units on each mainline entry, with a spin off that managed to sell 10 million units in 2 months last year, and they couldnt afford to either hire more people or outsource some of the work?See where I am getting?

Im more than cool with people being happy with this, just dont complain about the ones that are not.Thats all Im asking.

I still don’t see the whole brainwash thing, but whatever. And that xenoblade comparison isn’t the best, considering that they literally just finished working on a huge open world home console game before 2. Also, xenoblade 2 wasn’t exactly the best quality on release, so yeah. GF could outsource a whole studio to help with Pokémon to be super ambitious, but why should they? Don’t get me wrong, I would love an ambitious PKMN game, but it isn’t needed. Criticism is fine, but certain ones still aren’t

But thats the whole point. Its not a matter of if its needed or not.If Gamefreak really wanted, they could have made a pokemon with a DS-like graphic style for the 3DS or even the Switch, call it a "retro-style graphics" or whatnot, and it would have still made a killing.

We are not discussing business here.We are discussing what would be the best for the game as a game. And thats not it.And XC 2 was excellent on release, or it wouldnt have sold more than 1 million in the first month, basically selling more than any Xenoblade LT sales in one measly month. And certainly wouldnt have the legs to reach 2 million, which is what it seems it will reach.

And how come you dont see the "brainwash thing"?You just admited to "Don’t get me wrong, I would love an ambitious PKMN game", but you are still more than fine with Sword and Shield. This is the ddefinition of classical conditioning. You were trained to expect, throughout the decades of playing the same kind of Pokemon experiences, a game that wasnt pushing anything.

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

To try to explain why people are disappointed...

Remember when, during E3 2013, Nintendo showed off its then brand new 3D Mario game, the first HD 3D Mario? Remember how at first everyone seemed to hate it? Even today I see plenty of people on Vchartz complain about how it wasn't a 'true 3D Mario.' Why did it get that hate then and still gets those complaints today? Because it was an HD console game that was using the style and formula of a handheld game. People were expecting something ambitious and mindblowing, and they didn't get it. And for some, the fact that the game was a blast to play still doesn't matter and they are still upset that the Wii U never got a 'true 3D Mario.'

Something similar is happening now. This is not just the first home console Pokemon, but it is releasing on a console that is more powerful than the PS3 and Wii U. This is a console that has seen BOTW, Skyrim, and Xenoblade 2. Gamefreak has already shown a hint of what this new Pokemon experience could be like with Lets Go and having Pokemon wandering on the world map. It was always a given that the graphics wouldn't be as good as Zelda or Xenoblade on the Switch, but this still offered an opportunity to expand on the world and adventure of a Pokemon game like never before and reintroduce that sense of wonder by looking out at a field and seeing herds of Pokemon roaming around or a legendary fly off into the distance. And this trailer has all but killed those hopes. The world will look nice, but the models remain pretty much the same as those used in 2013 on a system that could only do 240P, the primary design of the game appears to remain the same as it was in 1996 on an 8-bit system that couldn't even handle 3 colors, with any changes being pretty minor, and the chance to rekindle that sense of wonder fans got the first time they ventured into Veridian Forest or found Articuno 20 years ago has been squandered by the decision not to have Pokemon on the overworld, which is a decision that is going backwards from the last spinoff.

Many people are happy with what amounts to a 3DS game with HD environments. But others wanted that experience of feeling like they were truly in a world of Pokemon, to be surprised not by what attacks you in a separate screen, but by what walks by, flies by, swims by, scurries about their feet or towers over them as they explore. This isn't something that is so technologically demanding. Games have been doing it for years. The first Xenoblade did it on the Wii and New3DS. Monster Hunter was doing it on the PS2, Wii, and 3DS. Not having it here is a big letdown for anyone who wanted that feeling of wonder that even Pokemon Go captured.

I mean, a least the Sinnoh remakes will look pretty.

Seriously though, Gamefreak needs to learn what the second analog stick is. Kids are playing Fortnite and Minecraft. This isn't the 90s. Children aren't having trouble wrapping their heads around 3D anymore.

Well, you know why they don't do it, of course. Having a second analog stick means more work on them and it means they'll have to actually expand their knowledge of game development. Since this is Game Freak we're talking about, well.

As for remakes... I'm not sure they'll keep on doing them, but then again, with the influx of generation 4 kids on the internet, I guess even those have become beloved classics (ewww) that could warrant a remake. If they do keep coming, then I'm happy Unova and Kalos remakes will look even better than this, those games were awesome (then again OR/AS was garbage so I'm concerned about them screwing up more of these).

Yeah... ORAS doesn't make me confident for a Sinnoh remake, but I've given up on expecting anything special from GF. In many ways, I hope Sinnoh skips this gen with Let's Go serving as the remakes. On the other hand, ORAS tells me that perhaps a Platinum remake should be left in my imagination.

I get that you don't like the Sinnoh games, but they feel like the last games with a geographically complex region traversal wise. It would really bum me out if we didn't get at least one of those regions done to scale. The Unova games are, to me, the last competent Pokemon games, but they started the rapid streamlining of exploration we have now. S/S look like the same thing, so I feel like after the Sinnoh remakes, we'll literally never get a Pokemon game designed the way I like them again. Short of a BotW-style reboot. Which I don't ever see happening, frankly.

Never got the hate for OR/AS. Are people still salty about the battle frontier? It was a Ruby/Sapphire remake, not an Emerald remake.

edit: OR/AS is head and shoulders above all the other 3DS Pokemon games.

Bet with Intrinsic:

The Switch will outsell 3DS (based on VGchartz numbers), according to me, while Intrinsic thinks the opposite will hold true. One month avatar control for the loser's avatar.

I would love an ambitious PMKN game, I love the game we seem to be getting now. You know what I wouldn’t love? The 5 year wait it would take to get the ambitious game and the filler that would come from it in the anime. It’s not like the PKMN games we are getting now are bad games. Would an ambitious, open world, gorgeous PKMN game be better than Sword and Sheild? It’s not certain, but maybe. But would it be worth it? As a fan, I’m not sure if it would be worth it too me. What I meant by xenoblade having some issues on releases day, not that it was a bad game

People also said they messed up the soundtrack, but I’m not sure I agree

That's outright false. The decision to get rid of the trumpets was awesome, since they got annoying quick.

As I said, I do understand where you are comming from. But at the same time, dont be upset at people that dont share your view.

I would take a Pokemon that would take 5 or 6 years to make over a game that is released every two or 3 years any day. There is a reason why Zelda and Mario are so beloved, more than 30 years after their debut.

Pokémon is so beloved, 23 years after it’s debut as well

And a lot of the issues with development could have been solved if another team with more HD experience had helped with the development.  Monoliftsoft helped with the development of both Skyward Sword and Breath of the Wild for the Zelda series.  If Gamefreak asked they could have helped with Pokemon as well.
