Forums - Sony - Did PS3, really copy 360 and Wii?

By the way, for the record, I don't believe that Sony copied Home from anything. Sure, you could say it's a console-based Second Life, and the avatars are like Miis, but the concept is really quite unique--they give you your own virtual apartment, and allow you to put some type of face to the otherwise faceless people you play with online.

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

I think I remember hearing crickets when Nintendo announced their new controller. While all that has changed now, I know many people in my circle of friends and in articles I read on the web were very hesitant to embrace Nintendo's new direction.

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. Thompson

The guide button was on both the PSX and the PSP before it was ever on the 360.

Of course Sony copied Nintendo. They copied Nintendo with the PS1 and they are coping Nintendo again. The more new products and ideas Nintendo comes out with, the better. It is good that Sony and MS copy Nintendo because it makes for better games.

Because obviously Nintendo never benefitted any from copying Sony and MS, such as adding on online service and moving away from cartridge based games.

no they did not as sega and nec did both of those on consoles first

Everyone copies someone else. It whether or not they improve on the idea or simply add the feature that makes it acceptable to me.

Example, Nintendo didn't create waggle. However they reinvented its use and created a very unique experience on Wii. Sony simply copied motion from MS and other 3rd party controllers for PC. Part of the reason the sixaxis has no good implementation in ps3 games.

Didn't waggle and gesture based stuff really start with the eye toy?

SixAxis didn't copy the Wiimote. It was a RESPONSE to the Wiimote. It copied the GBC (tilt n tumble).

Sony dida lot more blatant copying back in the day. I didn't have internet back in the PS1 days so I'm not sure what the response was to the sudden introduction of analog and rumble in the PS1 controller after the N64.

You mean copying Sega right? They did both of those first... as did a couple other companies with Cds before sega... maybe.

Nope. That started waaaay before that... with some Atari thing. Also, the Power Glove.

The main "innovation" the Wii did was they took away the saftey net.  It wasn't an add on, or a regular controller that could do motion sensing.  Wii actually took away some buttons and made the motion control a main part of the consoles brand identity... meaning companies had to use it.. and they couldn't half ass it.

Really? I thought the Eye Toy was a brand new thing, though it must have been the first with the camera

Nope, and well... No. the first camera for a home console was the "Dream Eye".

For... you guessed it. The Dreamcast. It was supposed to have games much like the Playstation Eye did but well the dreamcast failed, so Sony took the idea and made it their own.

Which itself was just taken from numerous arcade games.

The Eyetoy was just another idea Sony coopted and called their own.

Dreamcast did everything in it's generation it needed to be the best last generation.  Only problem was it was made by Sega and after the killing off of the saturn and the 32X and Sega CD nobody had faith.
