Everyone copies someone else. It whether or not they improve on the idea or simply add the feature that makes it acceptable to me.

Example, Nintendo didn't create waggle. However they reinvented its use and created a very unique experience on Wii. Sony simply copied motion from MS and other 3rd party controllers for PC. Part of the reason the sixaxis has no good implementation in ps3 games.

Didn't waggle and gesture based stuff really start with the eye toy?

Nope. That started waaaay before that... with some Atari thing. Also, the Power Glove.

The main "innovation" the Wii did was they took away the saftey net.  It wasn't an add on, or a regular controller that could do motion sensing.  Wii actually took away some buttons and made the motion control a main part of the consoles brand identity... meaning companies had to use it.. and they couldn't half ass it.
