SixAxis didn't copy the Wiimote. It was a RESPONSE to the Wiimote. It copied the GBC (tilt n tumble).
Sony dida lot more blatant copying back in the day. I didn't have internet back in the PS1 days so I'm not sure what the response was to the sudden introduction of analog and rumble in the PS1 controller after the N64.
