According to the insiders of resetera, the switch was supposed to be 2.5 millions :/

So I would have been lied to !

does anybody know if they are gonna say software numbers for december too??

Wouldn't Switch's December result be the highest December for any hardware this generation (Switch/PS4/Xbox One)? Lower than some were expecting (and lower than a number of leaks/predictions suggested), but still a very strong quarter for Nintendo overall. Be interesting to see where there hardware shipments come in at the end of the month - and whether or not they stick to the 20 million target or revise it down to 18.5 - 19 million.

Wow, late to the party it seems i am. In the end it seems that Nov indeed stole sales from December. I expected 2'1-2'3M so i overstimated Switch sales like everyone else....PS4 and XBO did as expected.

In the end, Switch went from 4'9M in 2017 to 5'6M in 2018 in USA, a 14% growth. Way less than i expected. So we have 14% growth in USA, 20% in UK, 24% in France and something more than 50% in Portugal...

PS4 LTD US

2013 : 2.0M

2014 : 4.68M (+134%)

2016 : 5.20M (-9.2%)

2014 : 5.46M (+4.6%)

2018 : 5.36M (-2%)

-----------------------------

Total : 28.43M

PS4 international holiday season

2013 : 4.2M

2014 : 4.1M (-2%)

2015 : 5.7M (+39%)

2016 : 6.2M (+8%)

2014 : 5.9M (-5%)

2018 : 5.6M (-5%)

daaang the switch had more game releases this year than the xbox one, accoarding to that chart.

I believe 1770k for Switch would be the best December of this generation (PS4/XB1 included) so that's good.

That number likely is not what Nintendo needed to get to that 20 mill target though, you likely needed sales in the 2.2-2.5 mill range to keep that target in play.

Switch is a more traditional type of platform in its sales curve (more like the PS4 actually) and I think Nintendo is going to have to just embrace that and make sure they are selling more throughout the year, not just leaning so heavily on holiday sales.

PS4 and XB1 were somewhat weak this December.

Pretty much agree with you, and yes this is the best December for one device this generation. Also Switch takes the whole year just like that in USA.

PS4 ~800k
XBO ~920k
NSW ~1770k

Hmm..... Switch just barely beat out the total of the other two combinded.

It's a shame that wild rumors inflating everyone's expectations kinda rained on Switch's parade when it did achieve the best single month performance of any console this gen.

Signature goes here!

So it seems having actual Black Friday deals does affect December sales and it isn't some hard rule that sales double in December for Nintendo.
