Forums - Gaming Discussion - Batteries feel obsolete at this point

I just dug up my Wii U after almost a year of retiring it. I will periodically go back to play certain games, but this was my biggest gap between uses. And after so many months of being use to rechargeable Joycons, and wired Xbox controllers, needing to check the battery life on my Wii remotes felt like such a chore. It almost felt like a foreign concept - so this controller is at around half battery life, so in like a day or two to go out and spend money on batteries in order to keep using a controller i already own. Its just a weird feeling that something I was so use to doing as a kid, something that I have been doing for so many years just feels foreign at this point. I realize that rechargeable Wii remote batteries do exist and I may even consider investing in them, but thats not the point. Has anyone else felt this way?

There's a battery in every controller, and the thing with batteries is, they don't last forever; they get worse over time until they stop working altogether. The concept of a battery may be old, but at least it means that any device that uses it can still function as long as they make them. Replacing the built-in batteries in a lot of 'modern' electronics is a lot harder.

I will say though, I have a bunch of rechargable batteries and they got garbage pretty quickly. The odd thing is too, I have like 3-4 different recharge stations, all different brands, and all the batteries are of 3-4 different brands as well. So it's not a specific model either.  Kind of odd.

I agree with what Octane said, replacing the batteries in the modern electronics is a lot harder, but curiously with the video game controls it is still easy if you have the cheap tools to remove a few screws.

Only the XB1 that uses them this gen. Its fine imo.

They have rechargeable wiimote batteries.

Welcome to 2006?

My psp battery blew up like a balloon bursting out of the case. At least with normal (rechargeable) batteries you can keep using your stuff. I switched back to rechargeable batteries for my xbox controllers as the battery packs won't charge anymore. Same for the Wii. PS3 controllers however, one still works sort of. I hope my moves will last until psvr2 comes out. Charging takes a lot longer now and one drains pretty fast. (Still not as fast as DS4s lol)

Um...rechargeable batteries? Either common ones, used for right about everything, or specialized packs for Wiimotes...I use both.

Uh, your controller is still using batteries. I'm assuming you just mean batteries you have to replace every few days (assuming you play a lot) are obsolete? Then yeah, I agree.
