Forums - Sony - Sony will not be at E3 2019 for the first time!!!

The introduction of a new gen was never held back by events focusing on previous gen consoles.

Not holding a PSX this year? Ok. Not even being at E3? That's not ok.
I can get they not doing a press conference, but not being there altogether? It just doesn't make sense. If MS has enough stuff to show at E3, Sony has have at least as much.
They got to be preparing something (not PS5 related) next year, otherwise, missing E3 just doesn't make sense.

First break the news of no e3 next year now on the back of an already great year.

Then at PSX in december on the 25th anniversary of the PlayStation..... announce the PS5. Show the console, new controller talk up features and show tell the world how in march 2020 its going to be released along with TLOU2 as a launch title, Ghosts and death stranding to follow in the fall.....etc.

And they would have pretty much just won the next gen before it starts too.

I see some people saying that this means Playstation is getting ready for PS5 "sooner rather than later". Okay ... sooner than? What? 2021? That was never even on the table.

To me this does not signal some kind of 2019 release, or even a 2019 reveal. We still have Days Gone and Dreams ... and while many would argue that The Last of Us 2 and Death Stranding will be cross-platform releases, given the fact that both were announced in 2016 and are closer to completion I really would assume a remaster for both is much more likely.

Something like this makes sense, I think:

Q4 2019 - TLOU2, possibly Death Stranding release

Feb 2020 - PS5 announcement, possibly Death Stranding release

E3 2020 - huge blowout

Holiday 2020 - release

If I recall correctly that's basically how the PS3 ended it's run and how the PS4 was announced

I think people who see the PS5 release as being as far off as end of 2020 are just crazy. That's over two years from now. What do you expect Sony to do for the next year and a half, just keep showing new trailers of years-old announced PS4 games? While Microsoft and Nintendo continue having events and announcing new stuff, you just expect Sony to sit back with some vague promise of a future PS5 announcement for the next two years?

At the latest, the PS5 should be unveiled during summer 2019 for a release either holiday 2019 or early 2020. I'm still hoping they'll opt for late 2019.

Agreed.  If anything, all of this points to a 2019 launch.  Early 2020 at the latest.  Sony isn't going to have a quiet 2019, while the Switch and XBO get all the press.  My guess is a early or mid 2019 announcement, with maybe a tour to show off what the system can do.  I think the point Sony is making by not being at E3 is that there are much cheaper, easier ways to bring their announcements to the world.  Streams and trailers that get millions of views.  Their own events that they can put on and completely control.  It's not like the gaming press is going to ignore them if they aren't at E3.

What a laugh. Pretty sad to see the spiral that Sony seems to be content going down. What is this company.

Microsoft currently in an all hands meeting to amp up their E3. How do you miss the biggest event in videos games....

Must be a damn good spiral to go down.  Going to outsell MS by ~2.5:1 when all is said and done.  And it seems like they are getting a head start on next gen if these rumors are true.

Wow this something I never expected. I honestly don't know how to react, I don't follow PlayStation religiously or anything but I still watch their big events out of interest. But man what does this mean? I mean in the long term it could be something positive out of preparation for the PS5 like Nintendo did in E3 2016 before the Switch. But short term wise it was not great for Nintendo either and at least they had something to excite fans on what is the biggest video game event of the year.

I guess E3 will be between Nintendo and Microsoft next year... that'll be fun.

MS has never missed an E3. Nintendo missed around 4 of them.

No wonder XB1 is killing nintendo with regards to sal......... wait.

Yep...PS4 was announced at a separate event in February 2013, 9 months in advance. It’s going to be similar this time. We’ll see if the newest Resetera rumours are true, but a reveal at the 25th anniversary PSX seems more likely than another separate event.

well E3 2019 gonna be boring then.

Yeah ... that's what my timeline says, Feb 2020 - PS5 announcement.

Are they going the route that Nintendo took with their Direct's? If so, I don't think it's going to work as well. This will probably hurt both Sony and E3. I think Microsoft is the only one benefiting from this as they will be the only company selling consoles attending E3 now.

Are their PSX events or whatever they are called doing that well? Can't understand their reasoning.

Hope they do a Direct-like showcase for Ghost of Tsushima and TLOU2.
