Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Switch passed GameCube numbers, next is Nintendo 64 and we won't wait long

With update numbers for September, Switch sets at 22.86m, so it passed GameCube thats on 21.74m.

We want wait too long until Switch passes Nintendo 64 thats on 32.93m.

Switch at end of this year will pass 30m, so it could pass N64 at end of this year but in worst case it will pass it at end of March 2019.

I'd say Nintendo has to sell 50 mil for them to break even with the merger with handhelds and home consoles, factoring in reduced hardware R&D and higher profit margins for individual games/console sales vs a traditional portable. For it to be a success it needs to end up with the same numbers as the 3ds.
If it sells Wii numbers it would be the single best move Nintendo ever made since they started making consoles.

Switch end up this year with passed 30m, so we talking about more than 30m for less than two years, for full two years we talking about 35m+.

With all that on mind Switch will probably not sell less than 70-80m LT in worst case.

Oh I agree it's definitely beating at least 60 mil, probably 80mil and potentially 100 mil.

Good work Nintendo. You deserved the success.

Wake me up when it beats PS2 numbers (it won't, but could come close to Wii / PS1 ones).

What did the SNES sell? I through the N64 outsold the SNES.

SNES did 49.1 million; N64 did just 32.93 million.  All Nintendo console numbers are on their site: https://www.nintendo.co.jp/ir/en/finance/hard_soft/index.html

Switch: SW-3707-5131-3911
XBox: Kenjabish

Nope.  The N64 sold 32 millions units, while the SNES sold 49 million units.

Thanks, I thought the N64 sold 49m or something like that, I must have swapped the SNES around with the N64. Anyway thanks for the link.
