Let me guess.... it involved an oil wagon?

How did you guess lol. The AI with eyes in the back of their heads and telepathic powers, a character that can't stay hidden as an inch too close to a ledge makes him auto climb on top and scream TADA to all in range, combined with a fragile wagon that falls apart when you hit a pebble in the road, it was fun :)

It's also amazing how they accurately spot you after firing an arrow while concealed in a bush a long way off, at night, in a rain storm. I can't see them, simply relying on the aiming dot turning red to get a clear shot. Yet suddenly they are all shooting at me with pin point accuracy and I have to bail out of there. Amazing! Of course simply sitting behind a rock is enough to pick them all off one by one.

Mostly because I tried to stealth it too but gave up as there was always someone, somewhere that saw me kill someone. like they could hear the sound of my throwing knives hitting someone's chest back on and 50 feet away. But I mean, Overzealous security is a hallmark of a Rockstar title. It's to be expected.

So I just went for it. And got my ass blown up.... a lot.

After playing around 5h, in my opinion is just another overrated game from the same usual suspects in this gaming industry. Production values, presentation, open world detail, characters, content is top notch without a doubt. BUT, the gameplay is anything but fun. The gunplay is awful, the long distances become boring quickly, the controls can be annoying when you easily mistake an action with another, like when you enter a shop, you want to talk to the owner but you put a gun a in his face because talk to people and aim inside a shop share the same button, so the owner gets mad and he pursues you until you have no more options than kill him, and after that, dozens of witness call the polce and then you have 10 men trying to kill you. It breaks the inmersion and after spending minutes going from A to B to meet your objective, if this happens in the town where your objective is, you really get upset.

There are some games, from some companies that the press always overlook its problems and i'm tired of it. This is not a 97 rating game. Don't get me wrong, is a very good game but this game has some problems that other games have been punished a lot from critics and in this game this is not the case, because...."ey, it's a Rockstar game right?, what do you expect??

If you like inmersion, if you like exploring, if you like fantastic production values and you are willing to forvige its average gunplay and tedious game design, this can be your favorite game ever, but if not....well, it will be just another very good game with flaws that depending on your mood that day, you will be asking yourself if you're really enjoying what you are doing.

Despite all of this negativity, the game is still impressive at times and probably its best parts will surpass its bad ones for me. It's just that, this is not that 10 out 10 game that most journalists are saying.

This is why I always reserve judgement on Rockstar games until I actually read user reviews.  Things that a lot of people dislike about their works seem to often fall through the cracks when it comes to professional reviews from the big outlets.  Slow animations, clunky controls, bad aiming, repetitive tasks, and a lack of overall fun were the reasons I quit playing the first game after a couple of days and it looks like this game is in the same category.  It just doesn't sound like something I'd enjoy.

Also, reading about it kind of ticks me off for a reason that's become an absolute pet peeve for me about the gaming industry.  People LOVE options.  Everyone has things they like and things they dislike.  Why are developers dead set on making people play a certain way?

MCM (Mod Configuration Menu) came out about a year ago for Fallout 4 and it already has over 20,000 endorsements on Nexus.  It's framework that allows mod authors to give people control over how they play and it's AWESOME.

The result is that people can use that framework to control every aspect of gameplay.

Options should be the future of gaming.  Hell, it should be the present, too.

5 hours isn't even half way through the main systems tutorial. I'm at least 15 hours into the story and still tutorials for side systems are popping up.

I know 5h is not enough, but i'm not against the content, story, things to do in the game, i'm against the way you do it. The gameplay mechanic in itself. The gunplay won't get any better, the mapping buttons won't get any better, the long distances won't get any better...etc. I'm sure there will be cool story moments and even genuine good gaming sections later on, but that won't change the fact that the core game, is not enjoyable for me.

Look, the game is good, it can be a 8'5 or even a 9'0 game for me in the end, but the problem i have is with the press giving 10's without critizing something that a lot of people are noticing too. There's a lot of people saying the same thing, and I not consider myself a troll who wants something to fail. I genuinely feel this game in its gameplay core is average or even worst, just boring.

I

this will be a love-hate game with me ..I love hunting and just exploring the world, but the controls are clunky and that god awful wanted system is so frigging annoying. being reported for animal cruelty in the late 1800 setting seems stupid and unnecessary

I'm about 3 hours in and yes, the beginning is slow and very scripted. In one of the first missions I literally dozed off. What really bothers me is the amount of bugs I've encountered. In particular, the ones when I stuck in some random objects (or rooms), which pretty much means mission restart.

I seem to be similar boat as you. I love exploring and hunting and gambling, but that seems it for now.

And that's not a good thing. Lol.
