Forums - Gaming Discussion - Black Ops 4 physical sales down by 50% in the UK, lowest physical sales since Modern Warfare 11 years ago

Who would buy a physical copy of a pure online game? It's only natural digital sales to be way bigger than physical for a online-only game. Mainly because even if you buy it physically, you still need to download gigabytes of patches starting on day 1.

I don't see how a patch makes a difference. If you buy a physical copy of a PS4 or XB1 game, it will play from the HDD just like a digital copy.

Besides eating up an extra 50 gigs of space on your HD? It kinda IS a big deal. That's one whole game's worth of space for a single PATCH.

Seriously, fuck Activi$ion.

Um if they put the whole game on the disk 50gbs is still being taken from the console because it would need to download.

The question remains: How would any of that motivate anyone to buy a digital copy instead of a physical one?

I basically answered it in the edit. 50B is a long ass time to install, that bit of extra time and space is spent NOT playing the game and eats up valuable space for other games or updates. Like I said, that's pretty much one whole game's worth of space. For.A.Patch.

From what I have read, the game downloads at 112GB but installation size is 55GB.  Since the installation size is 112GB and that size does not fit on a Blu-Ray disk, then its understandable why you need to download the 50GB for the rest of the game.  Probably one of the big issues are the 4K assets that take up a large chunk of the disks space.  Either way, the actual total size of your installation whether its digital or physical will be 55GB.  This doesn't look like some scumbag move on Activision but instead just the nature of the beast when you have HD assets but not enough physical space on physical media.

Most watched CoD game.

Sold minimum of 5 million to a maximum of 8 million in 3 days. Those decrease in physical sales don't matter at all.

Yeah 500m is pretty outstanding. Next year will decline most likely. Probably MW4, Advanced Warfare 2 or new ip. I have w feeling if it's not MW4 they'll probably bundle mw2 remastered with it to boost sales and revenue. But if mw4 is next year they'll probably wait for the next cod to do the remaster.

I doubt it, I'm pretty sure next year we'll get Modern Warfare 4. It's a highly regarded series in the COD franchise and with that IP alone, the game will sell like hotcakes. I'd be more concerned about 2020, that's where COD will be at a huge crossroads. Activision doesn't have the Black Ops or the Modern Warfare IP to carry COD that year.

That's where Sledgehammer will really have to try and make the best new IP they can. My guess is that the 2020 COD will have a historical setting.

The King is dead.

Long Live the King!

Nov 2016 - NES outsells PS1 (JP)

Don't Play Stationary 4 ever. Switch!

I didn't think a battle royale with a 60 bucks pricetag would do so well since the competition is either free to play, or have a much lower price.

The streaming scene for BOIIII is totaly dominated by PC streamers now, amazing. It's the 1st CoD to do that as far as I know; all previous games were mostly streamed through consoles.
