Forums - Sales Discussion - Vgcharts should include/estimate digital sales

I'd be awesome if we had the means to make reasonable estimates but... We don't.

The site will have to find a way eventually. Digital sales become more relevant and grow every day.

Sometime in the near future they will be so important that VGChartz can't afford to ignore them anymore.

You should read what Bristow said. Its not about the importance of digital sales.

Until video game companies start providing actual figures and numbers of digital sales for their games, that's not going to happen.

No, it's best to leave this kind of guess game to the users, otherwise could mess up VGC's estimates even further; it's difficult to track physical sales as is.

As long as PS, Ninty and MS don't give that information I would say no. Besides if its a PS4/Xone game add a multiplier of 1.45 and you will get pretty close anyways. For Nintendo its probably about 20% and PC over 90%

I want Vgcharts to add that multiplier on sales. For PS4 and Xbox games at least.

The ratio on digital sales can vary just as much as the COMG ratio, so just putting a multiplier would very much falsify the results.

So yeah, until platform holders (which includes Steam, GOG and so on on PC) start sharing that data, I'd say we leave them out

Well Steam leaked their stuff this year but they have since fixed the leak.
But it game Steamspy one big dataset to estimate the owners of all games.

VGC already gets enough flag for not beeing accurate enough and pulling digital numbers out of thin air would make things even worse.
It would be nice to have them and afaik Ioi had a project/website for estimating digital sales at some point.

That kind of got recked earlier this year though. Valve changed their privacy policies or how they stored information or something like that and now Steamspy get a lot less information and are much less accurate.
