Great news, I hope this gives japanese devs more incentive to bring their games to the system, I'm surprised of the relative lack of JRPGs on the system.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

Wow! Did the same as the PS2!

Pocky Lover Boy!

Nice, that you included other systems time to that milestone. I thought 3DS must have lost steam later on, but looking at the list I realize that 3DS is actually pretty strong in Japan, currently 3rd in total sales (only topped by Gameboy and naturally DS). There are five systems sitting between 5 and six million units in Japan (which Switch should beat this year): N64, Sega Saturn and the Vita. After that is a big gap with only the PS4 in it, which obviously is still a moving target. The next settled target is PS3 with just above 10 million units. Can Switch get there next year? Possible.

reached this goal really fast, and smash could give another nice boost

Looking at the before and after numbers, it seems Famitsu is calculating the Switch sold 41k in Japan last week. Seems a little low.

In my opinion the N64 was not just the best console of the 5th gen but, to this day the best console ever created!

Interesting to see the Wii and 3ds got there first

It seems that 3DS is fastest selling gaming device ever in Japan (at least to 5m).

Wii also had first 2 years strong but than sales totally slow down, in around first 18 months sold around 6m and in following 5 years sold 6-7m.
